I hate generative AI

For the past few days, despite me blocking countless amount of accounts, all I see on my Twitter feed are AI generated images. My brother finds AI memes hilarious, my friend sends me AI generated slop on TikTok and one of the Youtubers I've been watching for a long time, in one of his recent video was praising ChatGPT. I feel alienated in my hatered for this piece of technology so I'm using this website to rant about it.

I've always tried to be an non-wasteful person. We've been segregating trash since I remember, not wasting water, etc. So it pains me so much that people just don't care. There are countless articles about how much water gen. AI is using, but it doesn't stop people from creating this god-awful images. This winter there was no snow. When I was ten there was so much of it that we were struggling to walk around the city. But global warming is "just a myth" or it's "too far away to affect us". It's hard-breaking how much empathy our current society lacks.

People losing their jobs is an obvious one. Who needs graphic designers, person who specialize in marketing, voice actors if a machine can do all of this for free. All of the AI generated ads I've seen are literal eyesore, but at least big company saved couple of bucks, right?

Something I've seen the AI bros lack is understanding how inherently human art is. They don't see creating it as something meaningful, they just want the product (even if it's so ugly, I can't get behind how hideous AI "art" is). I feel like a lot more people would be open for AI if it was mostly used for tedious tasks not something fun to do. Because making art is fun - even if you're not good at it. What's the point of having mass following on social media, if all you post is generated images, when there is nothing you created is yours, it has no meaning, you can't be proud of it? Such an artificial fame.

And it lies. It lies so much and so many people I see online treat it like a better Google. "But you're supposed to verify what ChatGPT spits out, it says it on the website." Then why don't you just use google in the first place! Student were always cheating while doing homework, me included, but at least you had to search a little for the answer you were looking for. Now a machine just spits out the answer and we're getting so lazy we're unable to write an e-mail by ourself.

I don't think AI can't be useful and not so damaging, but it's not how currently most of people use it. I am really sad that I can't do anything to change what people think of it. We live in such a world where profit is the most important thing above everything else. People will continue to generate these stupid little images, generators will get better and better to the point these will be unrecognizable from human-created pieces and it's the future I fear. 

All I can do is rant.
