Our parents were too busy figuring out how to use the Internet (because they didn’t grow up with it like we did) to realize that their children were being groomed and traumatized online. This is what unrestricted internet access as a minor can lead to too many times.

About some childhood stuff..

I agree with this but I do think people don't give children enough credit. I grew up with the unfiltered internet and I was really good at dodging gore videos and weirdly enough I never came across lewd content. I believe common sense on the internet is all it takes to nullify all these issues.
That said. If I were a parent I 100% would heavily filter and monitor my children's internet use. I feel bad for people that ran into the adverse effects of unfiltered internet use. In my opinion children should not be allowed to use the internet without direct parental supervision until they are around 12-13ish. Then it should be heavily filtered and monitored.
I like the rule of no phones at night and no computers in bedrooms room.
I somehow never ran into gorey stuff myself back then. The problem was more so adult men being creepy toward me. I definitely didn’t seek them out. We live in a time where internet use is so vital and excluding kids from it would definitely make them feel left out. But!!! I do think people should really be talking to their kids more about being safe online.

I agree but I don't think this is a bad thing. Growing up I never had a gaming console and when people talked about games I felt left out. However, in hindsight not gaming pushed me towards doing more productive things like making videos and working on computers that turned into marketable skills.
I stand behind this take because if it's worth talking about they can just ask questions about whatever it is to be included in conversation. Which is what I did.
I don't mean to take too much of an extreme stance. Obviously they wouldn't be totally cut off from the internet but I don't think being behind the curve is a big deal when the curve is basically one day because they can just research the topic on the internet at home under parental supervision.
