Now that I have finally, actually seen Last Night in Soho and can say that it is the least cliche Edgar Wright film he has ever mad. That was a terrible way to put it. What I mean is that this film was weirdly more mature than his past films, he showed great restraint in certain areas of his style (though I'm not sure if respecting the genre counts as restraint). The film was so clearly his and yet so, so different from all of his other work. If I hear anyone talk about Edgar Wright being a one trick pony I will throw them down the nearest flight of stairs istg.
That said, the film itself hasn't broken new ground in anything if you know what I mean. He's not redefined cinema or given new meaning to a genre, he's just made a really superb film within in the psychological horror genre. In that genre I would like to say that I prefer The Babadook, but those films aren't comparable.
anyway, I will be talking theories in the Edgar Wright film club group I made on here if anyone is interested.
