how we find each other

8 billion people and we’ve found each other.

— a thought that will always amuse me. we could’ve met different people, we could’ve met in different points of our lives, we could’ve never met at all.

but somehow, we did meet.

maybe something bigger is at play here. perhaps destiny? maybe i was destined to find you and you were destined to find me; maybe the stars were aligned to make us cross our paths. all the choices we make take us somewhere, after all. 

were the choices i made supposed to bring me to you? 

looking at a long thread of continuous choices, knowing the smallest difference would be enough to make sure we never crossed paths. how many universes are there where we didn't? how many universes are there where i looked past you, ignoring you in my path? 

how many universes are there where i made your choices and you made mine?

hypotheticals don’t really matter in this case. we could’ve never met at all, but we did. at least in one universe, our paths crossed. at least in one universe, our paths crossed and diverged again. at least in one universe, our paths merged and became one.

8 billion people and i found you. 8 billion people and you found me.

i'm thankful that out of the sea of people out there, you were the one i found. my choices may have not always been the best, but somehow they brought me to you. everything happens for a reason, and i suppose you were the reason.
