I'm so excited to watch Frankenstein this november, like I think about this at least once in a week, it has never left my mind ever since I've seen the announcement and I CAN'T WAITTTT.
I just love this book so much and I've seen that Del Toro was also looking foward to making this movie for a long time. As any book fan I'm worried the movie is not gonna be what I imagine but heyy it's Guillermo Del Toro he knows what he's doing and I'm pretty sure if he changes something from the original history it's gonna be for the better. I didn't watch Pinocchio and that's a flaw, I admit, but I know he did a great job with it so I'm gonna trust him.
Talking about casting, my celebrity crush and LEGEND Oscar Isaac will be playing my favourite hysteric drama queen Victor Frankenstein, the main character and mad scientist that gives birth to the misunderstood but oddly beautiful Creature of Frankenstein (played by Jacob Elordi, surprinsingly). Followed by Mia Goth, which I'm pretty sure is gonna play Elizabeth, It makes sense, she's a big name right now and Elizabeth is like the only female character that has some spotlight in the story. Although, Mia is more suitable for horror movies and I don't think Frankenstein is the biggest horror story out there, but what do I know? I still haven't heard of any other names that are going to be on the movie, I'm really excited to know who's going to play Henry, or if he's even making an appearance, his death was the most shocking and surprising for me and Guillermo Del Toro can't take him away from the movie like that.
When I first read the book, I fell in love with the gothic literature, something about every main character just ending up dead at the end was somehow comforting? I don't know how to describe (maybe because this isn't my first language or maybe because I really don't know what I felt about that, I just liked the book). I didn't know Mary Shelley could cook so hard in just a few hundred pages and now I aspire to be a writer as good as her someday.
Going back to the book, I absolutely love how Mary Shelley writes Victor Frankenstein just being a loser that just crashes out at any minor inconvenience ever since he made the creature. Minor inconvenience, in this case, means:
- having your little brother murdered by your creation;
- have a chat with said creation and get asked to make a WIFE for him;
- accept to make him a wife because you don't really have a choice since he can kill everyone you love;
- get your best friend murdered by your creation because you hate the idea of your 2 monsters having other baby monsters and couldn't finish building his wife, so he gets really mad at you;
- Have your own wife murdered right after your wedding because your creation is still really mad at you and thinks you don't deserve the love you denied to him;
- Some other stuff I forgot.
