A Gyaru's Guide - A Guide to Motivation (03/03/25)

As someone who's been a gal for a while now, doing a regular look and putting on good clothes everyday gets exhausting. It gets exhausting sometimes when you do the same look over and over again for people who seemingly don't care or who don't like your unique look. It gets exhausting when you spend time planning an outfit only for it to look wrong and for you to grin and bear it when people stare at whatever gaudy shirt you have on. Like I don't like it either! Stop looking at me like I just killed somebody. And if you're still living with your parents, they can be really damn judgy sometimes. From off-handed comments to fully disapproving, opinions like that can make you feel really small, and can make you want to give up the whole look.

If this is you, then I totally get how you feel. Personally, I've been struggling with depression and therefore motivation to ever dress up all glam. Well, as I'm writing this, I'm in a full gal look - leg warmers and all! But a week ago, I would've been in sweats and eyeliner that I forgot to wash out. I know that sounds gross, but it's true. Depression really kills your motivation - I've only just started back again.

So! If you relate, then keep reading away! Here are some of my tips to stay motivated and keep being you. Just a heads up - this is all based on my personal experiences. There's a chance that none of this may help you, but even so it's always worth getting a good read in your system.

TIP 1:

You can always take breaks. I know that many gals like I have said this is a lifestyle, but it isn't technically a natural lifestyle that us humans are wired to get used to. I have taken a few breaks here and there, just to break the cycle of constantly wearing false lashes and makeup on my face. Besides, prolonged use of false lashes can lead to natural eyelash loss - just look at how patchy mine are.

TIP 2:

Try new makeup looks everyday. Although you can't go out and buy clothes all day, you can use different colours in your shadow palette to give your eyes a pop of colour, or maybe even try a new makeup style overall - a super wild looking yamanba to a soft princess look to a sexy tsuyome look - the possibilities are truly endless.

TIP 3:

You'd be surprised on how many outfits you can make, even with a super basic closet. It's all about how you wear it or maybe even aspects of DIY - even a basic white t-shirt can be gyarufied with the right sense of style and a bit of DIY. Make it an off-shoulder top! Now it's super sexy ;)

TIP 4:

Take care of yourself by investing into your emotional wellbeing. In this hustle-y world and having to work to get the clothes you want, all whilst stressing about your social life, family, work or school, you have to just tell the world that you're taking a day off to focus on being you. Take a shower so you get that greasy feeling out of your head, pop on a show that you love, buy yourself all your favorite snacks no matter how unhealthy it is - chat to your friends about how you feel! When I told my friends that I was taking a day off to focus on me, I was met with unanimous waves of support and love, and you should get that support too. The world will keep spinning, it's just that you need a breather from making it go round.

TIP 5:

Honestly, scrolling through apps like Pinterest really gets my mood up and my inspiration flowing. There's so many images that you can gather inspiration from, and I usually look at all of the stuff I accumulated to regather some short burst of inspo if I need it just for the day.

Those are just five tips that I've gathered. If I'm being honest, motivation can take time to gather - I mean, I literally just took about an hour just to write such a short blog because I've literally been taking scrolling breaks in between. Although being a gal is fun, it gets exhausting, and that's okay. There will be days you just don't feel like it, and that's okay. Just remember to get back on your feet, dust yourself off, and get wild and be sexy! Lots of love!
