#26 - CONSEQUENTIALISM & THE SLIPPERY SLOPE

What ends can justify the means? The truth is that "ends" and "means" are one in the same. To live with faith and virtue leads to salvation, and to live without them leads to damnation. Now of course, I acknowledge the teleological suspension of the ethical, but murdering someone for "the greater good" is not the same as God testing your faith.

In fact, the "greater good" is ultimately subjective, as the very idea of seeking pleasure in the future is flawed. This is why progressive regimes are stuck in an endless cycle of justifying their rule because their raison d'être is to make the future better, despite all of them being mortals who are stuck living in the present. Don't misunderstand, I also acknowledge that planning for the "future" is good because it will eventually be the present, but it should never be buying the future at the cost of the present.

The only way to live a life without regrets is to live with faith (which washes away your anxiety of the future with your trust in God) and virtue (which inherently relies on being aware of the present). Learn from your past, live in the present, and plan for the future. One who lives in the past is depressed, one who lives in the future is anxious, but one who lives in the present is at peace.

Life is a song, by thinking of how good a previous part was or by thinking of how good another part could be, we forgot to listen along and enjoy it. It is impossible to listen and think at once. So please, just chill out a little, alright?
