loss

i lost a friend recently. and though we weren't close, she had a lasting impact on my life. no-one deserves to die, but if there was one person who didn't, it would be her. she had a spirit of generosity and kindness so intoxicating you couldn't help but smile around her. when she arrived anywhere, at any time, an infectious wave of joy would flood the room and anyone in its vicinity, as people shouted her name in a kind of happiness specific to her as a person. she had the sweetest soul and when we danced together i felt free. one parents' evening we had an extended conversation while waiting for the time to pass and i remember feeling struck by just how nice she was. she worked so hard and really deserved every success in life. on the day she passed someone said that she was like an angel sent to us, and though i'm not religious, i believe that to be true. i hope your soul is at peace. i will remember you.
