i have such a bad judgemental view nowadays with people who like any of the genres ive mentioned above. its almost like a conservative view of modern books in general; i HATE the new generation of authors. i wont lie, there may be some books out there in those genres that are done so, so well, but so far the things ive read and seen is just... ugh, ruins my view on them.
romantasy, or fantasy in general stopped being my favorite genre for a long time. for simplicity sake, im going to refer to both of those genres from now on. i only dipped my toes in their water with leigh bardugo's work, and thank the lord that i never touched another romantasy book ever again after finishing her entire grishaverse series (other than julie c. dao's work w/ forest of a thousand lanterns and its sequel, kingdom of the blazing phoenix). my cringe and distaste stays with leigh, i cannot harbor any more hate because that will fuel my hatred even more with this community. ill discuss my problem with leigh bardugo in another post later because MAN do i have so much to say with her work.
i liked fantasy and thought it was cool when i was younger, but the more i grew up i realized that its really not... the best written genre ive seen. there'll be countless cringe scenes and terrible writing that others just eat up for no reason. boring prose or the same old story just retold and said a little differently. it doesnt interest me anymore. the stories make me disgusted and think: is that really the best you came up with?
now im not some grand author that writes amazing, im a procrastinating one lol, but i tend to judge these newgen authors harshly because at the end of the day, their work is only there because its popular in the market. i wish to see something new, something INSPIRATIONAL, and i havent felt good about reading a fantasy book since six of crows. now that was like reading a whole oscar worthy movie. i am frustrated with the lack of any creativity these newgen books hold.
it feels like with these new romantasy or dark romance books draws in a lot of morons who just consume, CONSUME and nothing else besides. it causes these people, like parasites, to feed on the hosts of these genres and corrupt it to nothing but dull dangy maggots of brainrot and trigger warnings. it makes these authors think: oh! thats what they want; i should write more of this!
no. no dont. just write something new or hey write another story in the same genre that has a good plot that doesnt involve anything toxic happening. maybe i am exaggerating, maybe i am being too judgemental. im not saying that all genres that ive mentioned here all have terrible books. no! i do think there are good ones out there that i may have not read yet, but these people are souring my view on these genres and makes me think that's all there ever is out there.
i do think these genres can be good, i do think i can enjoy them, but for now, we have these parasites that call themselves book lovers when at the end of the day all they read is my big fucking opp colleen hoover (she can go and DIE) and ruin the book community as a whole.
also why the fuck romanticize abuse and sexual assault? the fuck is wrong with you. how fucking dare you call yourself an author because women should not be objectified and abused. men should not be portrayed as abusers and rapists. why are we spreading this shit around like its normal? its NOT. the world will be a better place when colleen dies, and ill throw a party and invite yall when it happens. free caprisuns will be there in the cold ice coolers.
