A Gyaru's Guide - The Reality of Being a Gyaru (23/02/2025)

Everybody thinks that us gals have it all - the confidence, the looks, the makeup; I mean, we totally have all of those things. But trust me when I say that the life of a gyaru is a tough one, especially in a community that doesn't celebrate individualism and instead pressures you to conform to their somewhat boring taste in fashion. And double trust me when I say not everyone had the confidence to brush it off, especially as a beginner (bullying has serious consequences, remember that!). Soooo... before you dive into the wonderful sexy world of Gyaru, let's go through the somewhat harsh but gratifying realities of being a gal.

With this, I present to you...

The Gyaru Handbook for Sobering Realities!!

1) Gyaru is alternative.

Even if you take into account reiwa gyaru being slightly more adjusted to current Reiwa trends, gyaru as a whole is alternative. Not everyone dresses like us, and therefore we will be targeted for harassment. It happens, but hopefully we're tight enough as a community to have each other's backs.

2) Discourse.

What to wear, what not to wear. To bleach or not to bleach. Reiwa or Heisei. And that's just the surface. There are many issues within the gyaru community, and it's hard to distinguish all of the information from the barrage of misinformation flooding apps like TikTok and Instagram. A few reliable sources you could use, in combination with your own fully informed opinion, include the Gyaru Wiki (although there has been cases of misinformation in the past, don't let it fully deter you), Galture, Hello Lizzie Bee, and senior + Japanese gyaru (even better if they've been in the scene for years, although don't bury them in questions. They're influencers, not dictionaries.). And of course my blog!

3) Gyaru is sort of... dead.

Yeah... I know. Bummer. But here's a little insider scope for you guys - there's signs of a revival in specifically Heisei era styles in both America and the UK. I'm going to attend a meet soon enough with a bunch of gals and other J-Fashion girls in the UK, so I'm pretty excited! But yeah. It's breathing, but it's not brimming with life. Not yet at least.

4) Those damn resellers!!

It isn't worth it to sell a £13 shirt for £100. Just makes the market even harder for people with low-income backgrounds to even participate if they want anything branded. That's it.

These are just my personal rules. No hard feelings if you disagree. In fact, add your own rules below if you really want to!! But anyways, it is really late for me right now - I gotta get some rest for once. Goodnight, and remember - get wild and be sexy! Lots of love!
