☆ Favourite Albums Of All Time (Part 2)

This is a follow up post to my first Favourite Albums of all time blog. If you are interested in seeing the first half of this list check it out on my blog! Side note, I don't know why all three of my favourite rap albums were side by side on my notes app list, ignore that.

Full transparency I screwed up and deleted everything on accident after writing the first two so they might be lack luster. These descriptions in general may have less to say, some of these have been among my favourites for up to a decade so I just feel so naturally in love with them.

Saturation III by Brockhampton

This was the first Brockhampton album I ever got to listen to, but I have gone through their entire Saturation series. What makes this one stick out as the best for me is I believe their production quality was at it's best on this one. Out of the three this one has the tightest track list. Sure I like tracks off Saturation I and II, but this one is consistently great. Perhaps my opinion is painted by the fact that I enjoy Brockhampton's more high energy songs, which I would say this album brings to the table. I don't have a ton to say about this album, but not because of lack of interest. This album is woven into the fabric of my soul, it's as natural as breathing to me.. so it's hard to find the words to express anything about it.

Zipper

Favourite Lyrics

'I've got-, but you would never know

I like to hide them, so much I lose myself

That's why I'm pure to some, a psychopath to others

And grew up in counsellin', flippin' off my counselors

They gave me mood stabilizers

But when I came off 'em, I was violent

Took the drugs that I wanted, which didn't help with the voices

They just grew louder and louder

They called the people who'd just chatter and chatter

I juggle all my personalities'

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar

I genuinely don't have things to say about this album that haven't been said before. The first time I listened to this album I was laying in bed with my headphones on, listening from front to back. It was truly an experience of a life time for me. It's chilling to think about my first full listen to TPAB, though I'm sure many other people felt the same way. One thing I do have to add on about this album is that it has my favourite opening/opening track of any album. Wesley's theory is entirely unmatched and I can't even recall a single other opening track that holds a candle to it.

Wesley's Theory

Favourite Lyrics

'And (I love myself)

Huh, and when you lookin' at me (ooh)

Tell me what do you see? (I love myself)

Ahh, I put a bullet in the back of the back of the head of the police (I love myself)

Uh, illuminated by the hand of God, boy, don't seem shy (I love myself)

One day at a time, huh'

Igor by Tyler the Creator

TW for abuse mention

Obligatory Igor, but it's seriously that good. This album really came to me in my time of need. I was knee deep in an abusive relationship when I hit a fixation on this album. I became obsessed and enveloped in the narrative about a toxic cyclical relationship, knowing I was experiencing it all first hand. In the last days I was so scared of my ex I was listening to 'I don't love you anymore' on Youtube because I was scared if he saw it on my Spotify he was going to confront me. Even now some songs bring me back to that emotion of being trapped, especially Puppet. This album is deeply emotional and personal for me. Even now it's heart stopping and gut wrenching.

What's Good

Favourite Lyrics

'Dracula, Dracula, Dracula

Suck me first, I might get back at ya (I see the light)

Is that shit clear? Change the aperture

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, I can't laugh at ya (I see the light)'

Electra heart by Marina

Sometimes an album just makes you feel like a confident bitch and that's exactly what this one is for me. When I listen to it I feel like a million bucks and like the hottest girl alive. Am I a man? absolutely, but when I listen to this album I'm one of the girls. This album also reminds me of one of my best friends and whenever I see it they come to mind, so what isn't to love? My enjoyment of this one isn't profound, it's just pure fun and joy. This is THE GIRLY POP ALBUM.

Homewreaker

Favourite Lyrics

'When everything is life and death

You may feel like there's nothing left

Instead of love and trust and laughter

What you get is happy never after

But deep down all you want is love

The pure kind we all dream of

But we cannot escape the past

So you and I will never last'

From Homewreaker

The Most Beautiful Moments in Life: Young Forever by BTS

This album... WOW. It's going to be really hard to put my complex relationship with it into words. When I was 14-17 Kpop was my special interest and I NEED U Japanese version by BTS was the start of it all because of a tumblr gif set I saw when I was suppose to be doing class work. Embarrassing origins, but a song on this album saved my life so I won't be too hard on myself. Besides all that this era of BTS. They will truly never release music this good ever again. It's truly a shame that they fell off entirely after 2019 basically. So many tracks on this album are BANGERS. It's a balanced blend of soft gentle songs and high energy pumped up song. even the remixes are good, which is not something I would even give the time of day most times. This album makes it work. For lyrics below I'm going to post an approximate English translation.

RUN

Favourite Lyrics

'Will you stay by my side

Will you promise me

If I let go of your hand, you'll fly away and break

I'm scared scared scared of that

Will you stop time

If this moment passes

As though it hadn't happened

I’m scared scared scared I'll lose you'

Collide With The Sky by Pierce The Veil

I feel like this one is more so the speed of Spacehey's audience and demographic. Unlike some on here though I listened to this album the year it debuted, 2012. I was 11 years old and was just finding the first bands that I would listen to on my own, my first independent foray into music listening. I was no longer bound by my grandparents or the radio. This album ended up being recommended to me by my one emo friend in middle school because we were both the only emo kids in our middle school. She really formed my music taste around this age though, I'm sure she doesn't really know that she did that to me. Even after being out for over a decade this record feels like it was crafted with sheer GOLD.

I'm Low On Gas And You Need A Jacket

Favourite Lyrics

'But I will soon forget the color of your eyes

And you'll forget mine

So keep in happiness and torture me

While I tell you, "Let's go in style"

A million hooks around, a million ways to die

Let's go outside

It'll be alright'

From I'm Low On Gas And You Need A Jacket

Tourist History by Two Door Cinema Club

I have that type of music autism where I listen to one song by an artist sometimes and want every single one of their songs to sound exactly like that. This album IS that. The sound is very consistent across the whole thing, but it's a fun record regardless. The bass and guitar absolutely go off on every track. It's delicious. I came into contact with this record back in 2018-2019 because the songs were quite popular in the editing scene for a fandom I was in. Most of my early memories of listening to it take place on the bus on rainy days, sitting on the top deck and looking out on this one route I had to take almost every single day. A very specific stretch of the route reminds me of this album. I think I would take that bus just to listen to this album if it's stop wasn't so far from my current place.

Favourite Lyrics

'It starts in the theatre, a night of encounters

If I hadn't been there, if not for a cigarette'

Good For Your Soul by Oingo Boingo

I'm a sucker for concept albums/songs. I'm an even bigger sucker for songs based on books or media I already enjoy, are you kidding me. Oingo Boingo is one of my favourite bands of all time. Their style just makes me want to move, I can't help it. I feel it in my soul, joke intended. This was another case of just having to pick one album to be my favourite by an artist based on ratio of what I like. If you don't listen to Oingo Boingo you NEED to at least once. their music is unlike any other. their instrumentation is just so fun and bursting with life. Their songs are interesting and don't lack passion like so many other artists. Ugh I'm obsessed.

Who Do You Want To Be

Favourite Lyrics

'Do you like to live just like a rock in the middle of the sea?

Do you want to suffer by yourself in a pool of blissful misery?

Do you feel like a saint in artists' clothes with a rosary in your hand?

Do you wanna be crazy like Van Gogh, like a stranger in a

Strange, strange land?

Would you rather push the buttons and be feared by all humanity?

Or perhaps you'd like to be a bum?

Do you wanna be stupid just like me?'

From Who Do You Want To Be

Mother Earth's Plantasia by Mort Garson

This is just a huge comfort listen. This electronic album is music for plants, what isn't there to love. It's plucky, alien sounding in some sections and very sweet. It almost feels like it's the sounds of the universe itself, like the stars would play this tune if you were to be up there with them, floating through the milky way. It's almost an unexplainable feeling, listening to this one. Often times I feel very emotional for no particular reason when hearing it.

Favourite Lyrics

'I had a dream that you were dying

And the worst part about it was I was the one who killed you

I didn't mean to

Saw my body from the outside in

Letting you go

Just a reflection of my selfish soul'

Romanticism by Hana Vu

I have also made a full blog post about this one and will link that as well! I don't have much more to say about this album outside of what I have already said.

Favourite Lyrics

'Between my teeth, there's a bullet hole

Made of fates I sew to memories

And in your hands there's a fireball

Tethered to my soul, you're touching me

And though I cry, I won't ask you to

Belong with me and now you won't

And though I try, I'm still out to sea

To eternity and know I float'

From Alone

Alright! That is every single one of my favourite albums. I lost steam a little, knowing it's just going to be for like 3 people to see this. After over6 hours collectively between the two posts (many distractions) I finally wrap this up. Thank you for reading!

Until next time my friends!
