(This was originally a bulletin in early February 2025. I decided to save it in a blog because I think it will remain relevant longer than 10 days)
I have written about my struggles with music here before. Well, next week I am starting therapy! I have made some small improvements since the blog post, but I want to really tackle this. Even when I try to push the envelope, I feel my chest get tight and/or like crying. I have my first appointment set up! It's with the same therapist who helped me with my work related anxiety.
I'm sure she and I will work out a plan, but I have a few ideas already. One of my goals this year is that I want to learn to play the Kalimba. I've always thought they looked fun, and I like the way they sound. I got one that comes with an app to help me learn. I might still need M's help to get started. I get a bit overwhelmed whenever I try it.
Our new roommate has a VR headset someone gifted her! Without me explaining my situation, she started telling me all about this game she wanted me to play. The game is "Beat Saber." In it you slice blocks to the beat of music. I think this could be a good addition to my journey. I told her about my problem and she is very excited to show me the game after I have recovered from my surgery.
The last thing I have at the ready is a music themed coloring book. I got a few coloring books for when I am ruminating on something. Ruminating is never fun, but like many people with ADHD I sometimes get stuck in a loop. If I find myself absolutely unable to shake it, I am going to grab the book and sit with it for a bit.
