Beans, radio stations, and social media

There's this very pretty Nina Simone song playing on the radio, not that I would know the name. Jazz has always been more my boyfriend's thing, much like Ozzy Osbourne, owls, retro video games, technology, and beans. Yes, we eat enough beans that I feel it deserves mention. We have far too many blankets piled on the couch, but I'm certainly not willing to give any up. It's a good night. Earlier, when I was doing video editing and dealing with the abysmally slow upload/download times? Not so much. I was very hesitant to open my laptop again! But, I'm not good at doing nothing, and writing seemed as good an idea as any.

I found [a radio station earlier](https://datafruits.fm/), though I'm sure it's more my taste than anyone's. For all my father's faults, the man was a pirating *expert*, so I grew up listening more to songs on cds and on the computer than listening to the radio. Why listen to that, when I could listen to all my mother's favorite nu-metal songs? It's been interesting exploring it, although I'm more interested in the cooperative, non-commercial stations. Much like my internet, I prefer not to have ads going straight to my brain.

I had and deleted a Mastadon account within 3 days, which might be a new record for me. I don't know what I expected, but I was never a big fan of the original twitter so god only knows why I thought I'd enjoy it. Maybe the joy I'm getting from personal sites and forums? If so, I think it'd be a better idea to stick to that sort of thing. I've been doing a good bit of coding, repeatedly changing colors and slowly adding small knickknacks. I also like the feel of status.cafe, though I'm trying not to jump on anything too quickly, *again*.

I've never been good at dealing with FOMO, frankly, and seeing all sorts of shiny new sites/forums is almost heightening it back to my social-media-using days. We fight the good fight however! I don't need to shallowly keep up with everything. Why spend 5 minutes checking through 7 sites when I *could* spend that time thoughtfully reading through an article, a blog post, or a forum topic? Don't get me wrong, I can't quite seem to kick my tiktok habit (mostly due to the copious amounts of cute animals) but I really do think that taking my time with these things is the better way to go. It just feels like a more honest way to engage with other people, instead of treating them like content-generators.
