grammys review

guys the grammys were good

a lot of people couldn't make it to my party because of sick :/ so it ended up being me, klee, shan, han, lexi (for half the night) and ben in and out. with the exception of ben, everyone was super into it. the performances were so fantastic!! 

rap album - alligator bites never heal | i predicted: alligator bites never heal 

im so happy for doechii, omg!!!! everyone at my party fell in love (or more in love) with her during her emotional speech and then her performance during new artist showcase ruled SO hard. 

pop vocal album - short n' sweet | i predicted: hit me hard and soft

given how the other categories played out, i'm not surprised that sabrina took this one. i'm actually giving short n' sweet another chance right now as i write this - not that i didn't like it, just not many of the songs made a big impression. i am a bit bummed billie didn't get any awards for hmhas but it was tough competition and especially since sabrina didn't get any other major categories, i think the win is more than deserved.

country album - cowboy carter | i predicted: cowboy carter

i mean it had to be this, right?

best new artist - chappell roan | i predicted: chappell roan

yay chappell won!!! i feel like with her meteoric rise, it HAD to be her, though like i said, we thoroughly enjoyed the whole showcase of artists!! benson boone's kurtis connor mullet coupled with his two backflips had us rolling, sabrina carpenter's drag-esque take on a pinup girl, khruangbin's 60sish psychedelic rock vibe, teddy swims simple soulful performance, raye with the big band lined up behind her, doechii's choreo and costuming, shaboozey was also there. it was great

next was latin pop album congrats shakira but i did not predict any winner in this category because i am unfamiliar with latin pop

pop duo - die with a smile | i predicted: die with a smile

gaga & bruno mars killed california dreamin' that song was so perfect for them to perform. <3

record of the year - not like us | i predicted: 360

song of the year - not like us | i predicted: not like us

i really didn't think they were actually gonna give the song calling drake a bitch & a pedophile was going to win song of the year let alone ALL OF ITS NOMS thats crazy work lmaooo. not mad 360 lost but i do wish charli wouldve been able to accept an award on stage!

album of the year - cowboy carter | i predicted: brat

again, as much as i would've loved to see brat win, i do get that this is huge for beyonce. it was nice seeing everyone get emotional over her win. i saw someone on reddit call cowboy carter an expansive look at the history of american music, and that made me more interested in giving it a chance (ive just never been a beyonce fan ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

ok im listening to cowboy carter. it's good. i think i'm gonna give beyonce a chance and dive into her other albums. i think the thesis of cowboy carter is super cool & AOTY winner worthy for that despite people online thinking she's only winning as a legacy win.

other predictions i made that were announced during the pre-show:

pop solo performance: espresso | i predicted: good luck babe: a little bit surprised good luck babe didn't win anything, but more steep competition! espresso deserves it just fine

r&b song: saturn | i predicted: burning: i'm glad tems won something even though she didn't get this!

rap song: not like us | i predicted: nissan altima: ok not like us winning all of its noms and doechii getting rap album actually is better

rock song: broken man | i predicted: broken man: ben likes st. vincent so i'm happy for her and glad none of the dusty guys won

music video: not like us | i predicted: not like us: wop wop wop fuck em up

anyway im so happy i hosted the grammys party! that was super fun!!
