you're the only one
who treated me so gentle
your touch was tender
you didn't have to try to understand me
it was like i was a part of you
you treated me like a puppy
you licked my wounds
and i licked yours
calm washed over me like summer
different than the bitter, frigid
surrounding months
your voice like cotton
a whisper
expressing the fragility you saw me as
like i was your prized possession
like i was an infant
you taught me how i should be loved
and winced at the thought of the others
loving me so wrong
my past seemed to hurt you
no one had ever hurt from my pain before
i no longer had to push down the agony
i had always ignored
your gentleness was so foreign
i was fearful of upcoming outbursts
but they never came
you were only gentle
and your touch was tender
you rubbed my back
and held my hand in the store
you wiped tears you didn't cause
no outbursts
you kissed me goodnight
and shared your blanket
