I'm in my anime phase again and I've watched a handful of yuri/gl anime to fill the hole in my heart. I'm not really apart of any anime communities to talk about what I watched and how I felt about them so here I am. I try my best to avoid spoilers but sorry if I accidentally slip something... Lets get started!
Adachi and Shimamura: 7/10
I really liked this one! It's about the two girls who met by ditching class and started to get to know each other. Adachi develops feelings and wants to hang out with Shimamura more. She almost confesses like 3 times. Shimamura is kinda clueless but she just assumes Adachi acts the way she does because she hasn't really had a friend before. Adachi has a delinquent reputation. I relate to how Shimamura feels about friendships and relationships. She doesn't go out of her way to make connections and doesn't mind being alone. But she does care about Adachi.
The only problems I really have is that it is a slowburn, I don't mind it here but others might. I'm also not the biggest fan of the side characters like Shimamura's childhood friends and the little alien kid. It also leaves you wanting more since it ends at a weird spot. I might try to find the light novel to read.
I'm In Love with The Villainess: 8/10
This one is a fun watch. The main character, Rae Taylor, gets isekai'd into her favorite dating sim but instead of being interested in any of the men she's supposed to romance she is into the villainess, Claire Francois. Rae does everything she can, using her extensive knowledge of the game from her past life, to get closer to Claire. Claire for the most part does not reciprocate and continues to act as a villainess towards her. As the anime progresses they do end up getting closer and Claire warms up to Rae. This anime would've been my life if it came out when i was a freshman in high school.
There is an incest jumpscare (not with the mcs) but the anime is good trustt.
Whisper Me a Love Song: 5/10
I'm a sucker for media with fictional bands so I was excited for this one but... did not really like it. Its about Himari, who recently became a high school freshman and see's Yori perform at the opening ceremony and falls in love with her singing. Later, Himari meets Yori and tells her she fell in love at first sight. Yori interprets this as a confession and catches feelings for her. Yori does what she can to make Himari fall for her. The music in the show is fine, I actually really liked the Loralei song.
I did consider dropping this one after a few episodes. The mcs are okay, they do lack a bit of depth but they are cute together. And they do end up dating towards the middle-ish point of the show. At points it felt very melodramatic with the amount of complicated relationships and feelings with Aki, Shiho, and Yori. Although I do like Shiho's band and the backstory, I didn't really care about the band showdown plot point. And yeah, the animation was really bad. From what I've seen the manga is better, i probably would've enjoyed that. (btw I'm not anti-melodrama it was just kinda annoying that no one talked to each other till like the end kinda)(i could probably say more but I'm trying really hard not to make comparisons to Bloom Into you..)
Bloom Into You: 9/10
Yes it is as good as people say. Yuu recently started high school and is having trouble picking a club to join. Her homeroom teacher suggests the student council and accidentally get dragged into helping with the student election. As she heads to the student council room, he accidentally overhears her upperclassmen, Touko, being confessed to and hears her say she isn't interested in dating. Later Yuu asks her for advice on turning down a boy that confessed to her in junior high since she believed Touko was the same as her, haven't experienced any sort of romantic attraction. But as it turns out, they aren't the same, Touko is in love with Yuu.
I really love these characters and how they explore their relationship. I'm not sure if this is what was intended (I only saw the anime) but I like the aromantic themes in the show. How Maki enjoys viewing romance as an audience member (omg like me) and how Yuu really wants to experience romantic attraction but cant. I really like Touko's backstory and her character. Touko just learned she can love and Yuu wants to learn if she can love, so she stays by Touko's side. I'm gonna start reading the manga.
Oops I accidentally said more on the anime I watched more recently than the others. Also sorry if messed anything up and grammar errors, I wrote most of this at 2am. I was also going to review a manga I read but I'm tired of typing.
If anyone has any recommendations PLEASE drop them! Preferably not in a school setting because as you can see I have already watched a fair amount but I'm open to anything as long as it's romance.
