some quote about religion & magic

"...it is particularly difficult to differentiate between a religious attitude and a magical one as they overlap. Magic expresses man's desire to control and use the supernatural forces for his own ends, whereas religion implies live and spiritual acquiescence to God's will.

In real life it is almost impossible to draw a line between these two attitudes, as each gesture, rite or cult object may be expressive of a magical intention or a specifically religious one. The difference then comes down to the difference in intention, so complex and often beyond full comprehension.

In a society that considers itself Christian, magic is always present in various forms and degrees; after all, the simple sign of the cross made by Christians blends religion and magic.
