Connections and creativity, the way it should be.

My current adventures into the indie web have lead me to some interesting places, and to some interesting people. I even made a whole post about it! On social media, I often felt very small and insignificant. Why comment something when it will only be buried or ridiculed? Why like something that already has millions? Why create when there is already so much to consume? Here, I'm already finding it much easier to connect and create, which I think are two important ideals on the web.

To connect with others; commenting or responding, emailing, or starting private chats. To create; you write, web-weave, draw, etc. It truly is an infinite space to interact with.

I do find it hard to let go of my urge to consume, as is evidenced by my far too full rss feed, my numerous bookmarks, and my continually filling 'watch later' playlist. But the effort is there. When I see a post I like, I comment my thoughts. When I find someone's creations interesting, I add them to my rss feed, or sign up for their newsletter. I spend time tweaking my profile , write blogs about my thoughts, and allow myself to fully be inspired by what I see instead of mindless consumption.

By the end of the day, my brain feels like I really used it, like I worked it out. A satisfying feeling.
This is what the web was meant for, and I want to do everything I can to keep it going. And the only way to do that?
Create and connect.

slow moving indie web forced you to sit on creations rather than algorithmic crap. I been off main web (minus youtube for my music and nancy drew play throughs ) for 6 years now. I feel happier and way more creatively driven for ME instead of creating for others.

Exactly! I can take my time with everything I find, and it really is so freeing.

Because it's your creation, not anyone else's. That's you, and you matter. Also because creation is a dialogue that moves through time and space, tying things together.

A dialogue! That's a great way of phrasing it.
