Yesterday night I felt pretty cold in my room. Colder than usual for winter. So, I went downstairs and looked at the thermostat. The temperature was below what it should be, yet the heat wasn't kicking on (despite heat being turned on). I turned it off, then back on, and around 5-8 minutes layer it did turn on, so I was like, "Sweet, it was just being weird."
Last night, same issue. It was getting cold and the heater wasn't heating. I told my parents and my dad went down to the basement to check it out. My mom suggested it could be a gas leak, but my dad didn't smell any down there, so, we ruled that out. My dad later on scheduled an appointment to have a guy come over and check it out.
Later that night, at like, 1am, I got a bit paranoid and decided to look into gas leaks and how they affect furnaces. Somehow, during this, I ended up finding a Reddit post where someone's issue with their furnace was caused by dead batteries in their thermostat. I looked up the one my house has and changed the batteries. Like two minutes later the heat turned on for a solid hour or so, so I was like, "Sweet, fixed it."
Woke up this morning to the living room still being under temperature. Not as bad as last night, but still not the best either. Batteries didn't fix it, but it did seem to improve the situation just a bit.
Anyway, guy came over a few hours ago and checked out the furnace. His conclusion is that the filter we got may be too dense for our furnace (it was a new type we got) and that it may be causing the heater to overheat and shut off automatically. He also said it could be the control board giving out. My dad is going to schedule someone to come over and fix up the control board sometime.
Anyway, that's been my past few days lol. Hopefully the heater works a little better tonight than it has the past few.
Edit 1/15/2025: The furnace is working again! :D
We had to slowly start turning up the temperature again since it was around 7-ish degrees below what it was supposed to be and just having it run to catch up immidiately would proooobably not end up being a very good choice.
