Saying Goodbye

When is it the right time to say goodbye? How do you know that saying goodbye is the right thing to do? When someone has been in your life for so long, it feels like saying goodbye means letting go of a part of you. Maybe I am. Will they even be affected by the end at all? Will they even let me say goodbye? I guess time will tell.
