BOJACK HORSEMAN: AFTERSTORY | PROLOGUE

I was heading off to university, sitting on the bus and browsing FaceBook. I seldom ever did that, but there were massive traffic jams these days. The day was cold and snowy, typical Colorado, but one of the posts showed a story from the sunny land of Hollywoob.

I was never really the type of person to be interested in the lives of Hollywood, Hollywoo OR Hollywoob stars. I liked watching things, but the things in question were usually cartoons, some for kids, some for adults.

Maybe an electronic newspaper wouldn't really bring warmth to the mountain state of Colorado, but something caught my eye on the post.

"BOJACK HORSEMAN RELEASED FROM PRISON" read the title.

Oh, I guess he is one of those problematic stars that everyone is so fixated on lately. BoJack was apparently sentenced to like a year or two in prison for breaking and entering, but had even more controversies including his part in Sarah Lynn's death. And he was apparently kind of a bigot. Ya know, the usual stuff.

I never really cared much about problematic celebrities since often the accusations are simply made by desperate people looking for money, or people who derive pleasure from watching others' careers fall apart. Anytime I saw a celebrity be accused of being problematic, I would not support them, but wouldn't talk shit about them either unless there was solid proof.

I knew BoJack was a bad person but I couldn't care less, since I was never a fan of (live action) sitcoms. Never really gotten into Horsin' Around, nor Philbert, nor Secretariat. It simply felt as if all the places and characters in live action productions looked so... bland. No lively colours, no wild hair... Everything was just normal.

I'm a good person. I am not judging BoJack. I know the man struggled with addiction for a long, long time, and I know he had a near death experience (so did I!). BoJack was a sad man, and he might have been intoxicated when he commited his crime. So I am really not judging. When I saw the headline, all I could think about was "I hope he's a better person now". I don't think people should go to prison to be punished. I think they should go to get better and learn from their mistakes. What prisons lack is good recosialisation psychologists.

Star of the 90s sitcom Horsin' Around, BoJack Horseman, has been released from prison after serving a 14 month prison sentence for breaking and entering into a house that actually used to belong to him. The horse says that "prison taught him a lot of things and he hopes he can be a better person now".

That's good... I hope he's being truthful. Sometimes the press forces people to say things that aren't necessarily true just to appease the public. But I really, really hope he feels that way...

I don't know, I just have a feeling... I think he changed. I don't know how to explain it, but I have a good feeling about it.

Despite being stuck in Denver, this thought warmed my heart up and brought a bright smile to my face.
