my winter playlist is going along swimmingly
some new stuff i listened to today (12/11/2024):
Caroline Polachek: I am rlly surprised i barely hear about her(prolly just my circle tbf). her sound is sonically very whats in rn, tho i think the way she sings sometimes may be too odd or too much for the general public. i was watching some of her live vocal flips and woah she is talented as a singer. not really what i usually listen to but i actually do like her work a lot. i mean its hard for me not to when all the beats in her music are so good. i rlly love the look of her album covers too they are so vivid? dark and dreamlike but bold and grounding. sort of heavenly in a fallen angel way. Desire, I want to turn into you is my favorite of her albums. i can feel wind of a train passing by in the underground subway just by listening to her music. she really captures the chaos and bright contrast of the city life. so far my favorite songs of hers is Hope Everlasting. I also think her Charlie XCX collab was good but im not a big brat fan lol just personal preference. She reminds me a lot of Grimes and imogean heap but theres something almost more choir-y to it? her sound is very creative and hard to pin down.
Sweet Trips album : Velocity: Design: Comfort.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
i love this album a whole lot. its like being inside a computer. the first thing i noticed about it was that it sounded so much like japanese shoegaze so i was surprised it was in english. I mean sorta like Plastic Girl in the CLoset or My dead girlfriend(this may be off im not super familiar with these bands)?? Japanese shoegaze has a very certain sound to it that i almost never hear anything similar to outside of japan, i think it has to do with city pop elements since that general was created in japan. anyway just skimming all the songs i already started saving almost every one off this album. im a sucker for shoegaze but man did this get me. i find with shoegaze you have to listen to the same song a couple times, get comfortable with the lyrics and noises, before you can properly love the song. so ill def need more time to absorb these songs before i can rlly pick a favorite. i also rlly like when bands have a guy and girl singer, i think it gives a lot of dimension to albums with multiple singers and even just backup vocals. the melodies in this album work so well, some standout melodies in Pro: Lov: Ad. this type of thing isnt everyones cup of tea but hits the nail on the coffin for me. typa music i listen to in my headphones on a rainy morning like this one was. Chocolate Matter and Dsco are so far what i am liking the most or at least the most memorable.
Gingko by Panchiko:
i love panchiko a lot. when i first saw they released this single i was like ok i give it a listen its alright. average. but then i listened to it today and it struck a chord with me(haha) the lyrics are perfect. the guitar riff is perfect. ive just had this on repeat. 113 days till the entire album releases :')
