Flip phone

Curently i am writing this on a flip phone, maybe i'll switch to my computer for later (this is so painfull). I had a keypad phone once, the few things I recall are taking photos on it but not having enough storage for more than five pictures, so I had to make compromises by deleting one picture for the space of another.

I was eyeing the Nokia 225, however they didn't have any in stores and I got my second choice - Nokia 2660 flip. The keypad phone market in Latvia isn't very colourfull which sucked for me because I would've gotten the Nokia 2780 flip for it's ability to have WhatsApp, deadass nothing here you can buy that runs KaiOS or any other OS that has the simple capability to use WhatsApp. I'd love not to use WhatsApp or a phone at all, I have been taking more and more off my Iphone 'till it was scaled down to a music player, a quick call to my parents and a quick web search. I do need WhatsApp to contact family outside of the country + It's the most commonly used communication app in Latvia and you can't escape it, everything goes through WhatsApp. Instead of Whatsapp, I can enjoy reading "Pride And Prejudice" on OperaMini and listen to the opera (which slaps) on the radio.

Since the flip phone doesn't hold much storage, half of it is full after a picture and a song, I have to wait to get an SD card, I am using my Iphone as a music player, and to make sure everything works alright I will be bringing my Iphone around for the first few days in case. If I go long away from home or go on a vacation I will switch to my Iphone, however my life is so bland in terms of location that taking my Iphone anywhere else and using it for any other purposes is practically useless. I can go to the local store and not take a phone, the route back is engraved in my bones.

Getting it open was a fucking nightmare, my nails are non-existent, I resorted to a knife which did fine. I don't like the version of Snake it has. What the fuck is "Snake Xenzia"?! This is not the snake I grew up with... To be honest, I don't know what Snake I grew up with, my mother says I used to have it on my first Nokia, however I don't remember anything. I basically grew up playing the phone emulators of the retro one or the Google one during computer classes at art school. Whether or not OperaMini has any correlation with "Opera" I still don't trust it or Google, go fuck yourselves, you're lucky I'm curious enough to search anything because I got a new phone, and the big ass white "F" with it's little blue background is a joke. Everything that wants your privacy is going to be on this phone.

Speaking of searching things, thought I am not a fanfic reader, read one or two in my life (the Hitler x Stalin one doesn't count), props to the writers, I'd give up as soon as the character isn't point on point the same as the og source. One of the first things I did search is AO3, it seemed simple enough, it opens all the menus and tags, which are horrible; what do you mean the most used/searched tags are "abuse", "alcohol" and "Omegaverse"??? (You can scratch the last one out, ain't that bad compared to the others.) I tried YouTube as well, obviously didn't work, neither did Tumblr, Twitter, Reddit did the minimum of showing posts but no replies, users, etc. If that's your thing, 4Chan works. And of course SpaceHey works as well, with a few issues but it does it's job.

I don't like the shit ton of useless games it has; I am not paying 2.25 eur to play Doodle Jump, get off my ass...

I found it surprising that you can send images on it though, and view a few on the web as well (yes, you can look at les mis fanart or whatever the fuck you're into.)

It has an alarm, a calendar, calculator, voice recorder, and you can connect to devices with Bluetooth. So far my Sony earphones and laptop both connected. I was able to import a ringtone for my phone ("We're Through" - The Hollies) and a photo for the wallpaper.

I figured out the WhatsApp situation, as long as I have wi-fi people can contact me, that's it, I hope. At least this worked when I asked my mother to text me and I texted her, the messages sent without a sim.

The customization on this phone is bland, if that's something you care about. Works for me since I want a less "wants" life and a more "needs" life. You can change the wallpaper, ringtone, message alert sound, move the apps around, change the "theme", it does nothing much other than change the colours of buttons on screen (I have red.). You can run some update on it but it claims that there "might be additional costs" and that's not something I need right now, thanks... There's a hole under the keyboard that seems to be for "phone charms", but I don't have any and can't assure you on that. You can put stickers on it if you want.

I turned off the noises the phone makes when you click something:

(Settings -> personalisation -> sounds -> keypad volume (under regular volume))

As well as the SOS button in case I get clumsy:

(Settings -> Device -> SOS -> SOS settings (turned all off))

 And predictive texting:

(Settings -> top left button on keyboard (the minus sign) -> Predictive text)

There is this thing called "Welcome note": customise it, turn off your phone, turn it back on, insert the code for the SIM card and it will show up after. (Mine's "Walter White, yo!" 'cause I'm just playing around, yo!)

Some people have issues with phones like this not having Spotify, Whatsapp, Gmail, YouTube, whatever... The WhatsApp issues is solved for now. It obviously won't have Spotify or anything of the sorts, the phone itself can hold up to 32GB and so you can use it as an MP3 player as well (just change the validity period to a shorter amount of time so that messages won't have to be deleted manually and won't clutter up your space.) or get an actual MP3 player, use your old phone as one, listen to music only at home. Those who don't listen to music often (which I presume is the minimum on here) this isn't even an issues to be solved, is it. Gmail is on the OperaMini thing, as far as I tried, won't let me go any further than entering my Gmail. Just write mail on your laptop or better yet with pen and paper. YouTube or social media as a whole is not something you will get or should think you will get on a phone like this, it's meant for calling, texting and playing snake, everything else is an accessory.

Overall, so far, not bad. Maybe in the long run will I find issue with it (By Pērkon Tēvs and Zeus, please don't let that happen!) I wish more people would find interest in using keypad phones regularly or at least be involved in them, the market might expand and maybe even in the future we could see people modding these things (not the ones running Android). I saw this one guy play "Doom" on Nokia 6300 I think, the only time I saw someone go outside the barriers of what the phone on default has to offer.

I stand corrected - there is no place on the phone to attach a "phone charm", that thing under the keyboard is for the charging dock, which is basically "wireless charging" for these kinds of phones.
