Rediscovering Music in Different Phases of the Year

Occasionally, I will rediscover an artist whose music I loved several months ago and played on repeat, who I forgot about without knowing, whose music just seeped itself out of my daily life without notice.

I usually listen to music on my laptop via YouTube mix playlists, and those things don't ever really present new music (at least, not to me), rather it recycles the same songs you've been listening to. So, if you're expecting to discover new music or artists via the YouTube mixes, try somewhere else.

However, sometimes, the algorithm sorts through your Watch History with just the right finesse to pull someone out from the depths of your memory. I've recently rediscovered Wallice and SALES: Dramamine and Ivy, respectively. I must've not listened to their songs for over a year -- my curation has been TV Girl and Laufey and Mitski as of late. They're not too mainstream, so I wouldn't be reminded of them in the avenues I peruse, like TikTok (SALES trended for Chinese New Year and Pope is a Rockstar (remember those?)).

Cavetown is also another artist that's re-entered my life recently. Although, my focus is currently on Wallice and SALES. I like Cavetown's Banana Bread; I'll probably listen to that soon.

I wish I could remember all songs and all artists all the time, but it really is a treat to rediscover them also. Re-ignite a flame you didn't know that died. It's as close as you can get to listening to a song you like for the first time (by forgetting about it and unexpectedly finding it again). And, those lyrics never really disappear from my memory: they are neatly stored in contrast to my other attempts at recalling information.

I love music !!!
