THE NEW SEASON OF ARCANE JUST DROPPED!!! HOLY SHIT HOLY FUCKING SHIT. The first thing I did on the morning it released was binge the whole thing. Thank god for arcane. I don't know if anyone else really understands how incredible it is. For one, its one of the ONLY pieces of media i have EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, that has managed to decenter men and treat female characters with respect. When you watch arcane, women are just naturally equal and their power, physical strength, and social relevance is not questioned at all. All the female characters are strong and intelligent, there is no evidence of internalized misogyny and performance for the male gaze. Vi and Caitlyn's relationship is natural and unquestioned by all. This fictional universe is completely free of homophobia, misogyny, and exploitation for the male gaze, which in my opinion, makes it one of the most unique and groundbreaking pieces of media of all time. It has incredible art, animation, lore, plot, characters, music, and depiction of power imbalances and relationships. As a lesbian, this is really important to me. Watching it I feel like I can admire strong queer relationships where they aren't performing for the male gaze, that's really difficult to find in this world. I appreciate this show so much and I hope it inspires girls and women to be strong individuals who understand their self worth so much that its validity isn't even something to be questioned. I'm so used to seeing lesbians infantilized, fetishized, and devalued simply because they are women who love other women. THANK YOU ARCANE I LOVE YOU FOREVER.
