I'll give you a rundown, but keep in mind that I am still trying to figure out how to navigate all of Spacehey, but I think that over the course of the time I've been here, I've learned a few things.
1. Try to use a layout on your blog! It helps solidify you as someone who is on Spacehey and cares about what their profile looks like. This is a case by case basis, but Layouts also help show others visually what kind of person you are and your interests. It's also fun once you get the hang of it.
2. To find new people to be friends with or things to read, go to Blogs > Recent Entries. This is where all of the most recent blogs are posted. Usually when you go to the blogs tab, you see the most popular or "kudosed" (basically most upvoted or most liked), but many of these blogs are weeks or days old rather than new. If you want to do it yourself, just go to "Recent Entries" on the left side under view.
3. Comment on people's blogs, and try to be thoughtful/put effort into your comments. If people are posting looking for friends and you two seem compatible, reach out and send a friend request! If you feel the emotional preparedness too, read and dissect someone's blog about a hard time they're going through, and let them know they're not alone. If someone is asking for advice and you feel like you can give some good advice, tell them! Being timid on here doesn't really do much good if you want friends, so reaching out and complimenting/interacting/etc. helps a lot. Commenting on people's blogs and seeing if they're active and looking for friends is a lot easier than browsing profiles and mass friending.
4. Under Forums, usually General and Friends are the most active topics. Look for topics that have recent replies on the first page (people don't know how to sort by newest) and pop in to a few to see if people have commented within the past week. If they have, type in an intro or just say hi. Most people on Forums don't really know how to forum like they did back on MySpace, so it can be kind of disjointed where there is no real conversation happening, and people are yelling into the void basically. Sometimes its fun and you can join. Adding these forums to your bookmarks makes it a lot easier to remember to log back in.
5. Learn a little bit of HTML. W3 schools is really good for this, but sometimes you can add a little bit of flair to your text. I'll list a few of the tags I use. Please keep in mind that these are used like quotation marks are, and surround the text, while the very last one uses a forward slash to tell the system that it is ending the formatting. See W3 schools for more info!
< b > is for bold
< mark > is for highlighting
< big > and < small > makes text big and small.
< blink > can make your text
There are a bunch of other ones in the Allowed HTML tags when you comment, make a blog, or make a reply on a forum.
6. When you make friends and they make Bulletins, make sure to comment on those too. They're temporary posts that disappear after a certain amount of days, so if you comment on other people's, they're likely to comment on yours too.
7. Make sure that if you have messages with people on here, CHECK THEM OFTEN. I almost always forget and feel bad for leaving people on delivered, so that's probably one of the first things you should do.
8. Try not to engage with ragebait, or negative interactions. Spacehey thankfully doesn't have an algorithm that shows you the same content based on what you interact with, but if you see a blog or a topic, anything with something hateful, mean, or you just don't know how to respond to it, it's better to not waste your time on it. I'm sure that's common sense but it's still a good rule of thumb for the internet.
If you have any questions or anything, let me know! I'm down to answer anything, so just comment or give me a holler. I hope you enjoy Spacehey!
