To start, someone might have heard me call the "arcade-rogue" genre the "Issac-like", but this new title fits better.
Getting Pegged
I got addicted to Peglin after watching this year's Save & Sound. I had it in mind as a game to get for a while, but I only got it now because the music surprised me. Now I just keep trying new runs to watch pegs being hit with various orbs. I was also surprised by the amount of depth the encyclopedia system has. I haven't discovered what happens when I complete a research, but it's a nice way to earn and learn about the game without having to learn every detail through a wiki. Lastly it was the perfect timing as the game went into v1.0 this year even after knowing about it for a long while.
Short brief on Peglin
It's an amazing game that combines the satisfying Pachinko-like gameplay of Peggle with the replayability of the arcade-rogue genre. It follows the same design conventions of Slay the Spire
where getting your first completed run doesn't take too long (if you
don't spend too long in single runs), but grants access to harder
ascensions/difficulty mods that stack with every completion.
Other Highlights
Before everything above happened, I opened Crypt of the Necrodancer and was being disappointed that a surprise retail DLC released after having the complete package for a long while. It was fun playing the game a bit, but it is much harder right from the get go. It has so much gameplay simply for getting used to the game before getting into the the main rogue mode. The game can be fun, but it never sticked because of the demanding on-boarding experience.
That's it
I'm pretty such not playing too many games will be a theme, but I have gotten a bit picky from growing up along with work. Hope I can I can have something bigger or a large variety at some point, but I don't plan to just save up just for that.
