Ben And Mary, No Longer Virgin

Mary sat with Ben outside the corner-store. “Mary,” said Ben, “I like the way you do your hair, but why is it like that?”.

Mary does her hair that way because John liked it when she did. “I just thought it was nice” said Mary.

“Mary,” said Ben, “Would you ever make your hair another color?”.

Mary thought about it for a little bit. “I don’t know Ben, but my hair was purple before”.

“Your hair was purple before?” Ben laughed, and Mary nodded.

“Purple is my favorite color.” said Ben, and Mary frowned because purple was John’s favorite color too. Mary didn’t like that it was Ben’s favorite color, even if she pretended Ben was John most of the time.

“What is your favorite color Mary?” said Ben, after rambling on and on about the color purple.

“I like red.” said Mary. Then Ben laughed again, and he said he wouldn’t have guessed it. Mary didn’t like when Ben laughed. Ben didn’t sound like John when he laughed.

Ben liked to talk a lot, and he did most of the talking whenever they walked together. Mary thinks Ben talks too much.

Mary did like a few things about Ben, apart from being John’s look-alike. Mary liked how Ben loved the Beatles, because Mary loved the Beatles too.

Mary also liked that Ben could paint well. Mary liked his paintings. Mary liked that Ben waited for her every morning, but she also didn’t like that feeling she got when Ben would look her up and down before greeting her. Mary wished that John was walking with her instead.

Mary liked a few other things about Ben, but there were 3 important things she liked the most. Mary liked that Ben had long, shoulder length shaggy hair. Mary liked Ben’s battle jacket, Ben seemed to wear it all the time. Lastly, Mary liked the way Ben talked. She doesn’t like to listen to him talk so much, but she liked the way he spoke, that’s why she let him.

All those things she liked the most because that made Ben look John. That’s how she found out about Ben in the first place.

A week or so before that day, Mary went to a party with her friends. Mary got lost during the middle of the party, and she was starting to get uneasy from the loud music and the aftermath of drinking half a bottle of beer outside. That’s when she bumped into Ben. When she did, Mary stopped completely. Then Mary smiled, really really hard, because she thought John had come tal see her again. Then she looked up, and all the excitement fell of her face when she saw Ben instead of John. Mary cried in front of Ben, and Ben took her to the side because she was crying so much. Mary doesn’t remember what happened after that, only that Ben was next to her when she stopped.

Ben began to follow Mary after that. Mary doesn’t know what to feel when Ben is around her.

Mary’s stomach turns when she thinks about Ben. Mary thinks that all he’s good for is being John’s dummy. Mary wishes Ben would hold her, that he’d stay over for the night, lay with her in bed, and let Mary play pretend like he was John. Ben would look just like John in the dark.

Mary realized she was thinking too much, so then she looked back at Ben.

Ben took out his phone, and he started showing some photos to Mary. His paintings, sceneries, and some just to make her laugh. Mary hardly laughed around Ben.

Then Ben started to show Mary pictures of himself. Mary didn’t like it when Ben did that, because sometimes Ben would show ones where he didn’t have a shirt on, and Mary would have to punch his shoulder and tell him to stop, but Ben would only take it as a joke.

Ben stopped for a second, then he looked at Mary.

“I’m bored, I want to watch porn, do you want to join me?”.

Mary only shook her head.

“Alright.” said Ben, and he took out a video from his phone. He unzipped his pants, and sat there watching until he felt good. Mary didn’t say anything, and only looked away, completely still.

After a few minutes, Ben started to pleasure himself in front of Mary. Mary could hear him grunting, breathing, even the drop of his sweat. Mary didn’t like it, Mary really didn’t like it, Mary was scared and didn’t know what to do. At the same time, Mary wasn’t surprised. Mary knew that now John was gone, any boy could have his way with her. John kept Mary safe, John kept Mary promised, but now Mary has nothing. Mary would have to live that way forever, no John, no purity, no virginity.

Mary’s eyes began to avert to Ben, still pleasing himself. Mary didn’t know why she looked. Then Ben looked up at her.

“I thought you didn’t want to join in? What, you shy?”

“I think I have to go home Ben.”

Mary grabbed her things and walked home. Ben texted Mary the entire night. Ben sent Mary pictures of him and his friends. Then he sent pictures of just himself. He sent pictures with no shirt on. Ben never apologized.

Mary has to see Ben tomorrow. Mary knows he’ll be waiting for her near the bus stop. Mary hasn’t said anything about what happened to anybody, except John.

John knows what Ben did. John doesn’t care what Ben did. John does not care about Mary. Mary sometimes thinks John wanted that to happen, that John told Ben to do it, that John would laugh in her face if he saw her walking home after it happened. Mary wonders if John would’ve done the same thing to her, just to remind her that was the only thing she was good for.

Mary hopes she won’t wake up tomorrow to see Ben.
