i decided i'm going to start doing journal prompts on spacehey, whether they're private or public is up to me. today we're starting with a simple one: what are my core values, and why?
- authenticity: it's important for me to be the most authentic version of myself possible because masking gets you nowhere. pretending to be someone you're not only brings you stress and fake friends. when you're authentic, you show other people that it's okay to be yourself, and maybe one day you can start believing it too.
- creativity: creativity is key to living a fulfilling and memorable life. creating things is important because it makes the world a less shitty place to live in. art is healing in every form, it can help others understand the complexities of life better, and it brings us all closer.
- fun: having fun is the easiest way to chase away a rainy day! you can't work hard if you don't have playtime too- remember, we are mammals, and we need enrichment in our enclosures. it's hard to feel depressed when you're having a really good time!
- justice: being autistic has given me a strong sense of justice. i think everyone deserves to live a comfortable life, and sometimes that means lifting up your neighbour so they can succeed alongside you. the world is full of injustice, and i believe there's only so much "it is what it is" until someone starts a revolution. we'd be better off helping each other rather than just ignoring other people's problems and hoping they don't start eating you.
- kindness: like justice, it's important to be kind because it makes the world a better place to live in. whether it's something small like leaving water out for bees, or something big like donating $1k to a palestinian relief fund, being kind is always a net positive for everyone around you, including yourself.
these 5 values help me be the best version of myself, and i hope they can inspire you to create your own list of core values! what's important to you matters, and it's a great idea to have a clear definition of what those things are.
