This is mainly for my own edification. But this is the difference between buttons, blinkies, stamps, and badges (and other stuff as I come across it.).
If you want to add any image/gif/whatever to your profile or blog, best practice is to upload it yourself somewhere (like imgbb) and link it from there. Otherwise you may get broken links, like you'll see on this blog because I am way too lazy to upload everything.
Note: Do NOT use discord for image hosting; the link will be broken in a few days.
Buttons:
Generally a 88x31 image (although I have seen them slightly deviate), can be static or gif. Was literally used as a button you'd click on the web, now mostly used for décor. You can make your own buttons here
Blinkies:
Literally to describe them blinking, they are animated and standard 150x20 although their sizes really vary. Oversized ones tend to go around 400x53, and some as small as 80x15. I've also seen them horizontal too, one example 19x114. They have around 2-4 frames to give it that animated 'blinking' look. You can choose a template and input your own text here
Stamps:
Named so because they look like stamps, they have a pretty universal size of 99x56 and a border that is meant to resemble the border of a mailing stamp. Can be static or animated. Fairly easy to make; get a transparent stamp border somewhere like tumblr, fit it to size on a site like Kleki, then add your image.Badges, Tags, Identity/Shiny/IMVU Buttons
This appears to be mainly very small, mostly static images of a word, often descriptors of some sort, hence why they are often called badge or identity button. These are really fucking small; around 80x15 are the larger ones I've seen, getting as short as 40x15. These are short and simple, and seemingly more about displaying relevant information. You can find a lot of simple badges or make your own here

IMVU
A social networking & avatar site named IMVU. They give users the ability to create their own badges, which I imagine a lot of these came from. While I'm sure a lot of the earlier ones came from this site, I think a lot of people make their own now. The IMVU ones tend to have an almost 3d effect.

Shiny Button
Just refers to the buttons that have that glimmer effect on them. A lot of them have the exact same effect at the exact same time, which makes it a little jarring to see them all at the same time.

Stickers/Pictures/Gifs
From what I can tell, this is kind of a catch-all term for shit that doesn't fit in other categories. Usually these are transparent images or gifs, often people will have them on a blog or in the text boxes of their pages, or even animated in the corner or across the screen. Sometimes referred to as simply pictures, or gif/png, but not to be confused with wip/emojis. They vary in size greatly.

Userboxes
Rectangular images usually with a square spot on the left side for a sort of profile picture. These are just pictures, but a 'type' of picture. Can be gifs, but generally they are a specific size and style.Pixels/Decome/Decomail
Very small and transparent images, sometimes gifs, often used in-line with text but I guess you can do whatever the fuck you want with them. Can come in a few sizes, but I usually see pixels referring to the tiny ones.

Decomail
Decomail, sometimes shortened to Decome, is specifically a feature for email on a Japanese phone service to allow it to include 20x20 decorative images. It's kind of like how your phone has all those yellow smiley faces and food items. However, people will use the term Decome interchangeably with pixels. The white cat is a popular one and I think it has a specific name.
<these 3 i believe are from the first iteration of decome
Favicons
Specifically 16x16 icon, originally used on web browsers to represent that website. It is short for Favorite Icon and are displayed on web tabs and bookmarks. These overlap with pixels a lot.You can upload a photo to generate your own Favicon here

Borders/Banners/Dividers
Long images, sometimes gifs, and it borders texts. Borders may also refer to image borders, which is completely different. These can sometimes also be text dividers. Banners tend to be 'fatter', but are often interchangeable with dividers. Oftentimes the image is a small section that you just paste repeatedly to the length you need.
Adoptables/Pets
Remember virtual pets? These are are like those, but ones you can embed in a webpage. Things like TomaNOTchi, VirtualAdopts, etc. Usually they evolve or grow in some capacity over time, or with visits/clicks etc. There's a lot of these things out there but very few are worth the effort.
