Typing quirks are stupid and defending them is ableist

With that ragebait title out of the way, let's get into it.

I get that some of y'all type like that because of roleplay or whatever, but it really does just look stupid. If you're going to do it, at LEAST put a normal version under it. People who have vision problems use devices called screen readers, and the readers cannot decipher stuff typed with quirks.

Also, if someone literally cannot read what you're saying to them, JUST FUCKING TYPE IT NORMALLY. I've literally seen some of y'all act like it's not a quirk and that it's a normal way to type. NO IT'S NOT LMAO

Okay, in the interest of having a civil convo //despite// your title, I imagine you understand there is a huge jump between someone doing something you don't like and being actually committed to being ableist.

I literally use a screen reader in some situations, but used and would again use leetsp34k (That is the name of what you are talking about, the term "Quirk" was popularized by andrew hussie's webtoon called homestuck later, and operates under L33t language rules.)

The reason for this is that I want to curate who I can be consumed by, that is the purpose. I large do this because , sadly, we are in a timeline where AI internet trawlers can mine anything that could be understood by a text-to-speech software, so if you want to avoid one, it does in the end exclude the other. I have deleted all my meta accounts, and never had a twitter, as I am very committed to not being consumed by anything other than a deeply interested social peer.

Like, I have some youtube videos but I HATE youtube so all the info and channel info is written in L33t in order to make the algo never ever show me to others (as it does occasionally just pick up random videos and show them to the masses)

You are allowed to disengaged with people who use it, but jumping to conclusions is just not productive. If choose to skateboard, and someone else just can't skateboard with me, i don't think that makes anyone involved ableist.

That sounds like a genuine reason to use it though, and that's not really what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the ppl who use it because they saw it once and decided to make it their whole personality, or stupid kids faking DID and making their "alters" talk like that. And then when someone asks them for a translation they respond (still in l33tsp34k) that they already type "normally" and they shouldn't be unable to read it.

Yo the culture shift in the DID space is getting kinda nuts, which is nuts bc i grew up with a DID aunt and I know these kids are gassing it up a bit, but I just wanted to put it out there that Leet/L33t/"Quirks" does serve a few solid purposes (Also filter evasion of heavily policed platforms like TikTok) -

Also, IDK if you use a reader urself, or just have a loved one who does, but when I am having a reader read me a whole forum thread while I am puttering around the room and suddenly i hear a bunch of leet, I just laugh, go and switch my reader speed to faster, and just listen to it and understand it anyway. I have a peeve with people who are bad/inconsistent with l33t because That //Actually// makes using the reader harder, if they don't use it well/ their quirk is trash but then I just ignore them. So like, it's not world ending, most of the time I /Can/ understand, it's just mildly inconvenient.
