I wonder, is Stocking from PSG actually /supposed/ to be scene rather than goth?

I know, we can probably draw the conclusion that Stocking is a lolita goth. It's what I thought too for the longest time. But, I talk to some people in Japan, and they got confused with me saying this. Lolita goth in Japan looks a little different from the overseas version. And Japan doesn't really have the emo or scene subcultures. At least, if they did, it's solely fashion, and not music or art or attitude, etc. (I may have seen emo in Japan but I personally never seen scene at all). If Stocking is actually a natural blonde like her sister (though maybe Panty's a bleach blonde...), then she is dying her hair to be these colors, and I do not think goths dye their hair like that (perhaps scene doesn't really do that either, but I think it's closer to scene). And then there's Chuck, the Gir look-alike. Maybe Stocking is just the Japanese perspective of the goth and scene subcultures, but it ended up looking like lolita.

For reference, here's the characters. (By the way, is Stocking's cat plush "honekoneko" a reference to anything? It's been bothering me for the longest time.)

I want you to know, Gainax/Trigger are one of the few Japanese companies that understands much about what's going on overseas. After moving to Japan, I learned for example most Japanese people have not watched that much animation at all. Television is handled so differently here and is localized through a few nearby prefectures at a time (like a radio channel). General Japanese people do not know much about what is going on outside their own country, and the ones that do are actually rare people, so please think about it before responding.
