I've learnt like basic hiragana for Japanese. like, basic kana. I know a few kanji but still can't really write them properly.
I've mostly learnt to read, writing is still difficult but I'm gettin' there.
I can write this now without google translation which is cool:
ピーザは好きです。おいしい。
idk my vocab is still a bit too low to form proper sentences.
I'm mainly learning Japanese because
- Culture is fascinating, it's fun to learn about and I like learning about it.
- It seemed like something I'm able to do in my free time.
- I want to try making translation and songs etc.
- It's fun to learn a language.
- I'm just putting this here because idk.
I heard that journaling in your target language helps a lot. And I found that to be true. Sometimes I write in snippets of whatever language in my journal and it's fun :] My handwriting isn't that good but that's alright ^-^
I like listening to language learning podcasts, too. They also help a lot :D
Some other things I do are watch YT videos in my target language, even if I don't understand some of them. I found so many YouTubers I like!! :] which i probably wouldn't have found otherwise
i also watch like Children's content in target language. Why? It's repetitive with an easy to understand vocab. Sometimes I recognise a word or phrase and it's like- :0 !!! Omg!! That means 'cow' !!! and like, yeah little dude, that's 'cow.' うしis cow. :)
I'm learning pretty slowly, since I don't dedicate a lot of time to it. I'm okay with it, though, since I don't want to overwork myself.
I may not spend 1 hour a day, but just 5 or 15 minutes daily is enough :]
+i have a penpal (in English) now and am working on a letter to send and ughhh. I'm working on it but I feel sorta bad for leaving them hanging for like 2 days I SWEAR I'M STILL WRITING IT !!!!! T-T

I love finding language content on here! You're doing really good so far! Since you mentioned Youtube videos, have you heard of comprehensible input? There's a lot of channels for it in Japanese. Anyways, I hope you have fun learning!
