man why does improving mentally have to be so difficult, sometimes i wish my problems were physical instead so i could just get a surgery or take medication and it would go away, but im stuck with the bad shit that messes with me braaiiinnnn

it sucks because i know exactly whats wrong with me and why, and i even know the steps i should take and things to do to get better but i just DONT GET BETTER. WHY AM I NOT GETTING BETTER? I SHOULD BE BUT ITS NOT and im scared itll never get better and ill be hooked up to some mind-numbing medication that turns me into an emotionless zombie and kill myself in my 40s

i hope its just me being a pessimist and itll actually get better and im just being silly. thats it right? it will get better, right?

Mental disorders are no different than any other disease in that they depend on the unwitting cooperation of the human body to propagate themselves. They have their own reactionary defenses: They'll make you dismiss your treatment, exploiting the human negativity bias to make themselves seem undefeatable even in the face of improvement. They have an uncanny tendency to make you scared of being treated, to think that they've become an inseparable part of you.

But what makes them different from a traditional disease is that they do not have the ability to harm you of their own accord. From beginning to end, the operation is to make you your own biggest enemy. And some are quite adept at this, making it certainly far far less simple than just shutting them out, but the most powerful countermeasure in your arsenal is to stay grounded and become your own biggest supporter instead.
