As an epic minority of even grander proportions. I've never been bothered by the amount of coverage that white men OR women get as artists.... After all these fellas are my heroes. That being said, I can't stop thinking about how in every major art form, the biggest icons are white men. I personally don't see color or gender, this argument crumbles incredibly quickly, but what can be done about this situation. As a minority what can I do to increase coverage of all minorities in the arts? I haven't done my due diligence in exploring more Hispanic literature but... how can you.... possibly... beat.... Brothers K..... Don't even get me started on Philosophy. Its biggest players are white men making esoteric ramblings on god knows what. It's not that hard to see representation nowadays, but at this point, the emphasis is solely on who they are and not on their art. I've seen many people get upset at the fact that white men and white women always take center stage (ESPECIALLY WHITE MEN). The beauty of this epoch is that you can attain this level of stardom, so what's the purpose of getting so upset at this. Getting upset solves nothing. This post might appear to be rooted in right-wing ideas but it is quite the opposite. I'm just a human releasing my thoughts on other humans and the impact they've had on my life. At the end of the day, I would like to see other minorities attain the same levels of fame as Beethoven or Jane Austen. Is the argument going to be rooted in their art or in their appearance? THE CHOICE IS YOURS....
White Men and Their Representation in.... EVERYTHING???

[U ARE THE NEXT BEETHOVEN] of whatever channel you express yourself through; maybe it's this way because the world is waiting on someone who can triumph over the white man's perceived relevance in these fields, a feat that seems so daring but really is ridiculous... Every being has that potential; white people were just on some lemme steal the world type shit back then, but it's changing now.
U scared of some old-head accomplishments? I bet they cant wait for someone to overtake them,,, how boring our world would be if nobody tried.
Do u really think a white man could've made sicko mode,..................................
Wouldn't it make it that much sweeter if it was you?

I think arguably the biggest players in philosophy would be Asians, specifically Chinese, based purely on the number of people who are impacted by them. I think a lot more people probably know about Confucius or Laozi then do say Kierkegaard or Nietzsche or Aristotle simply because in China their teachings are part of the standard education as well as generally having more relevance to everyday life and culture. It also has an additional historical value to both the Chinese and many of their neighboring countries. The difference is that here in the West we dont get to hear as much about those philosophies (for various reasons, not least of which being the classic colonialism/imperialism). But that's just silly semantics and I digress.
Regarding white representation in things like Classical music, it really isnt all that surprising (even if it can be disappointing), you gotta keep in mind the time periods in question. There's history and its context to consider there. You could easily say the same for literature (though again there is perhaps some argument there regarding pure numbers which would again lead us to Asia, Journey to the West springs to mind, and if you want to count modern times then something like One Piece might also be in the discussion). There is also something to be said for culture and how that impacts where people look to and even what they have easy access or exposure to (which becomes even more relevant when discussing history rather than modernity).
While I dont think there is ever gonna be a simple or even definitive answer to such questions I also think it ultimately doesnt matter that much. The real measure of any piece of art I think is how and what it makes you feel. To many people representation will be an important factor in that and it is therefor important to keep in mind (and that is entirely without going into the rabbit hole of societal importance when it comes to representation). At the end of the day classics and any fancy top lists are just a way to get started on exploring and there is, I think, no need to look any deeper into that than you personally feel like.

Maybe it's because I live in the West, that I can't really wrap my head around Asians being the biggest players. It's hard to fight for Confucius or Laozi when this era was predicted by Nietschze. Meaningless existences surrounded by a lack of faith... YADDA YADDDA YADDA If we're playing the numbers game, then I can see where you're coming from in saying Asians have dominated the game. I think ultimately I have no knowledge of what life is like in China.... but I feel like if Confucius saw the state of China, it would blow his socks right off.
As far as classical goes, I see where you're coming from. It has definitely always been a white man's game but even going into the 20th century where borders start to become less of a problem. You would think MAYBE there would be more minorities on the playing field. The most popular Hispanic composer I can think of around this era is Astor Piazzolla. I will continue to do more research specifically on this topic because I'm obsessed with classical.
At the end of the day I'm on the same page it doesn't matter much. It's just been something that has been on my mind as of late. It's not important to me because I'm ultimately just worried about whether that person will help me feel anything...
