Chapter 2: vile
Northburough had become a nest. Whatever vampire ravaged the area decided to fully drain all of its victims, leaving them to reincarnate as bloodsuckers. For the first few weeks, the new vampires would be fledglings, barely intelligent killing machines. Almost always the fledglings go after each other first, not knowing that blood nourishes them better than dead flesh. By the end of the frenzy, only a few vampires will remain. Those new vampires would then go on to gain strength, preying on whatever humored beings they can find. The vampires would make more vampires would make more and more vampires. The vicious cycle has been almost unending for as long as the people of this world have known.
Jacob inflames hated vampires, and here was a nest of them. There was still a few hours until sunset, and Jacob was ready. He polished and sharpened his sword, which was engraved with crosses, and made sure his leather armor was secured. If it weren’t so humid he would have burned the village down, but there was no chance of that today.
With the few hours Jacob had left, he thought to himself. The sight of that family kept flashing through his mind, and he remembered a familiar voice.
“Jacob, dinner!” His mother called.
“Ugh I don’t want too” the bright voice of a young Jacob responded.
“Jacob.” She called back, sternly, but not angrily.
Jacob shook himself, a vampires nest is no place to reminisce. Besides, the sun was setting, it was time. He took one last glance around his impromptu camp and set out to the northern edge of the village, where he wouldn’t be surrounded. The sun was almost gone, it was time.
Within seconds of it going dark, the first of the fledglings began to screech. Bursting out of the homes, five smelled and subsequently rushed Jacob. Swinging his sword, Jacob decapitated the first one and narrowly doged a second. The creatures were bald and pale, with long claws and pointed ears. Ravenously, another one flung itself at Jacob. Pulling out a cross, Jacob pointed it at the vampire, driving it back with a screech.
“Back!” He shouted at the four vampires, wich were staring at him hungrily. Lunging forward, he jammed the cross into the chest of one bloodsucker causing it to scream bloody murder before lighting on fire and dissolving into the mud.
He was right, this would be a long night.
