The Multimedia Device

In the escape of the constant feeds of content, what shall be thy savior?

Are you familiar with the concept of multimedia devices? Im sure the vast majproty of you are, but for our slightly younger readers ill let you in on this little piece of magic. Before phones and smart tvs essentially made the concept irrelevant, multimedia devices were made to be a "living room box" you basically filled with files and sometimes could play things like cds/dvds. They would come with some kind of remote and you would use it like any other tv box, if anybody hasnt had an opportunity to mess with something with multimedia features, I would highly recommend the experience

Anyways they have always been a surprisingly important part of my life! As someone who really hates things such as algorithms and constant feeds of content, the fact i can pick and choose my experience and load it all onto a device highly appeals to me. I am fasscinated with tech, and older devices, and it led me to slowly learn more and more about devices and their features. One in particular is incredible to me, and ended up being one of the things that ended up helping me in this journey of quitting things like YouTube

I myself have a playstation 3 I have completely tranformed into my personal music and video hub.It is simply a fantastic way to listen to music or watch shows that I myself searched out rather than being a thing that exists solely to feed on my own attention. My attention is my own, and nobody but myself with capitalize on it.

So, dear reader, do you have experience with a multimedia device? What do you personally use if so? What kind of things do you have on it?

I've started using my laptop as my multimedia device, GOG lets me go DRM-free so I don't have to deal with Steam or GOG Galaxy trying to sell me something every second. It has Bluetooth too so I can use any headphones I want. Unfortunately, it has no disk drive so I have to use my old Mac (a chunk of aluminum from 2008) or my PlayStation for DVDs/CDs. At some point, I want to get a USB disk drive so I can get some more desk space back.

Hey! Thanks for always commenting, for both my prosey stuff and more casual, slapped together posts like this lol. A computer is a perfect option really! But I seem to get easily distracted >.< Arent those usb dvd drives pretty cheap and decent these days? Ive always used a cheap laptop from 2014 i got from the pawn shop lol, it has one because it was the style at the time

You always have very thought-provoking posts so I'm more than happy to engage with them(I also find the coincidence of our usernames very fun). I got this old Dell laptop from my partner, it's got issues but I can play most games on it which is nice. I get less distracted on that laptop because I keep it a little cleaner. I don't even have Google Chrome on it. My school laptop, however... I have stuff from like Freshman year of uni still on here. I think I'm going to ask the computer shop in town about USB disk drives and see if they have any in stock, I hate ordering from big companies who treat their staff like crap.
