Lately I've been listening to russian music more often, though only two bands that I like a lot since I don't usually listen to new music if someone doesn't recommend it to me. But yesterday I found a soviet song, "Тёмная ночь", and I immediately loved it.
It brought a sense of familiarity to me that at first I couldn't put a finger on why, but after a few times listening to it I realized it. For a bit of context I'm latina and ever since I was a toddler I've grew up listening to music of the 70s to early 80s, so after thinking about it for some minutes I noticed that this soviet song had a very similar 'vibe' (I don't know how else to describe it) as the songs I grew up with, and this thought remained when I continued listening to more soviet songs.
From the vocals and the instruments to the tempo and the style of the overall song, both of them just feel the same to me despite the different languages, and it makes me curious to know how or even if the soviets could've influenced latin-american culture in one way or another.
