NOT A SMART POST, PLS WAIT LONGER SPACE COWBOYS...
In regards to anime, "tourism" (as I've gathered) is when somebody comes into a community due to a trend and tries to correct things to their likings with no regards to the community itself.
That's fine and dandy, it's just gatekeeping and moderation, right? (Again, I'm not much of an anime connoisseur, correct me if I'm wrong.)
But for whatever reason, I guess tourism is mostly used as an offensive tactic for when people criticize things that aren't really... right I suppose. I've seen the term thrown around when people complain about things like oversexualization of female characters, underrepresentation, political aspects, and of course... the big debate around lolicon.
Whether or not calling out these kinds of things are an overreaction or totally inept to you, I still hope you still get the bigger picture here. People seem to have a hatred on having these things called out on and resort to placing those who call them out into this outcasting category. Like, I get trying to push out those who don't necessarily understand why things go that way, it comes with the community aspect. But when you're pushing out people for finding themselves uncomforted or unaccepting of things like treating sexual assault like a joke or excessive innuendos then I think it's probably time to reflect.
Even then, having an opinion like that is also seen as "purist", so that's fun.
Then again I'm someone who dropped Azumanga Daioh from her "must watch" list 7 episodes in because of that Kimura character's existence, so what the hell do I know?
Feel free to yell at me, tear me apart, split my head open, stomp on me, whatever you will, you probably know more than me about this subject.

i very much agree!! ive never been fond of terms like these anyway (ie when fans of a music artist call people "Locals" or even the term "poser" at times), not because i dislike the meaning because i definitely get the meaning. its just that for whatever reason people dont use these terms correctly anymore. there are examples like this one, or liking a popular song from your favorite artist and being called a "local', or not looking like you listen to a certain band and being called a "poser"
one of my biggest pet peeves is seeing words be used incorrectly, so whenever stuff like this happens it really pisses me off ( not to mention people acting like tey know everything about a person online when they definitely dont) :'>> maybe its just me seeing that stuff though!! since i dont see too many people online talk about it ( also i know my examples weren't as "extreme"(??) as yours, but its what i could think of off the top of my head :'>>)
