this is very different from the usual. like very different.
so we all know im like really sad and stuff right? right. so like i was so fucking sad the other day and was like i gotta do something i wanna die so i picked up a book i never finished off my dusty bookshelf and decided to read it. it took two days to finish. it only had 322 pages i couldve finished it in one night if i really wanted to but i started reading at like 11 pm or some shit and got tired after like 2 hours of readin.
okay so what the fuck is this book anyways?
it's called "Fractured" and it's by Kate Watterson.
i found out after finishing it that this is book FOUR IN THE SERIES. hilarious. i mean like i said, i randomly picked this up in a dollar tree. or it might've been a dollar general. but i don't think it was family dollar. these details don't really matter. i've never done a book review so i'm not really sure what i'm doing. i hope someone finds this nonsensical rambling sesh funny or at least a little enjoyable. who am i kidding? no one's gonna read this bullshit.
okay so what's the book about? well it's a murder mystery woooah. but there's like a romance aspect to it? the romance is odd lol. okay so we have our two main characters homicide detectives Ellie Macintosh and Jason Santiago. Santiago is like this sexy asshole bad boy who's like yk the sarcastic jerk character that everyone falls in love with and Ellie is like the smart beautiful girl who's like really great at her job but she's like so serious about it like all she fuckin talks about is work. like jason will be like nah lets talk about sum else and she's like but those people died and we have to find out who did it wah wah wah SHUT UP WOMAN AND MAKE OUT WITH HIM ALREADY.
okay so the plot.
so there was a vicious murder of a college professor he was like stabbed like crazy and his face was mutilated and there was a cross stabbed into his chest. Then it happened a second time and that's where the book starts. same death and everything. so the couple of partners are called to the scene and yk whatever this is the second time they've seen this type of killer so they're like oh okay so this was the same person who did it and we've got a serial killer on out hands but it doesn't make sense because they couldn't connect the two together at all. the first guy was a college professor and the second guy they couldn't even identify until way fuckin later on in the book like literally near the end but he seemed to be like a squatter staying in this random ass dingy ass house illegally and so they like spend like a fuck ton of time trying to connect this cases and yk fin leads or whatever idk. so a few scenes later like this happens early in the book Jason or Santiago idk the book calls him by his last name a lot but he witnesses a car crash caused by some moron walking in the street. he yk checked out the scene or whatever and got the moron arrested and yk checked on the folks in their cars. no one got hurt or anything but one of the people in the crash turned out to be the governor's niece named Lauren. this whole fiasco leads to Jason and Ellie getting to have a scheduled dinner with the governor's family but whatever that happens like later and stuff. okay so then there's like this idk b plot or maybe c plot since the romance IDK where there are a number of cutaways to this therapist Georgia Lukens and her patient Rachel Summers who talks a lot about her kinda abusive relationship with her unhinged roommate Lea. there are also scenes with Lukens talking with the two detectives (privately) which do more with the romance plot i guess. every cutaway to them (Rachel and Georgia not Georgia and the detectives) we learn more and more about Rachel who is like kinda socially awkward, no confidence, and wont stand up to her roommate because she's scared to be alone or something. she starts like talking about the roommate alot and being like "yeah she threw out my shoes" and "there's blood in her car" and"she follows men around" and nearing one of the last scenes she's like i know her secret and Georgia feels conflicted about telling someone what she's heard because it violates her fuckin idk she's not supposed to talk about the patient's shit with people but because of the things Rachel is telling her she feels like the roommate is dangerous and she should report it to the cops and eventually she does but that happens real later in the book. okay back to the detectives. so yk they like start getting more information and stuff and they find out through the autopsy that drugs (and the fact that both victims ate a cake like thing before death) were involved so they get a drug dealer, Gurst, to help them out to find where they could possibly get the type of drug and then the fuckin drug dealer gets shot and Jason's like oh shit the killer prolly did this and Ellie's like we don't know it could've been a drug deal gone wrong but the drugs were left behind so it had to be their killer who found out about their scheme or something. so like while they're all at the scene or whatever a black car skrrts by real fast and they're oh shit that's them so they start going after the car but they end up losing it. okay i don't remember exactly what happens after this. at some point a third guy gets killed in the same way and like shits getting bad they're like oh god we gotta get more leads we don't have enough. okay so little detour to like the romance or whatever. these two have been working together for a while now i cant remember exactly how long and i dont feel like grabbing the book to figure out but it has always been like just a work relationship. Jason makes a smartass or dumb quip to get on her nerves, Ellie responds to his dumb quip or something and yk they fuckin do work. they're both like really good at their job and work together well even though Jason is like an asshole or whetever. also Ellie has a boyfriend and they're relationship kinda sucks ass like they're both so different and they're basically living different lives. okay so like at some point idfk jason starts to realize he really cares about and might have feelings for Ellie but like idk she just doesn't really know i guess. so okay idk when at some they go to that dinner right and the dinner itself is fucking insignificant but there are two important things that happen there (well technically one happens at the dinner and the other afterward); Jason sits next to the governor's niece and they talk about and she seems to take a bit of a liking to Jason. But Jason he's like in awe of Ellie's beauty. she's wearing like a pretty red dress and he's like damn she's so pretty like a million times in his head. so after the dinner the detectives go back to Ellie's hotel room to talk about work and Jason is literally like NAH and Ellie's like what the fuck is wrong with you why are you being so weird tonight and he like does that thing where he puts one hand over her shoulder and they're like up against the wall YK WHAT I'M SAYIN and he kisses her and just fuckin leaves like "i'm not sorry". so like for a little while their relationship is like really weird like they barely talk and when they do it's brief or it's like strictly work yk buut things do eventually get KINDA normal but the kiss happened so things were still kinda weird. okay sooooo i can't really remember what happens next so lets fucking wrap this shit up. SPEEDRUN TIME!!!! so okay at some point i cant remember where it fits in the timeline the detectives get a lead from some kids who hang around an abandoned school that was right across from the second murder victims house or whatever that they saw a black car parked there and they heard a woman screaming that day. and now the detectives are like wait a woman we've been thinking it was a man this whole time. fast forward some more one night while Jason's like alone in his apartment and what not the niece Lauren comes to his fucking HOUSE (he never told her his address like she literally did some stalker shit to find him and ADMITTED to doing stalker shit to find him) and they go out to get coffee together and he notices how strange this all is. so another thing that has been brought on and off (i'm really tryna rush here but there's a lotta fuckin information) is the first victims bitchy wife and they've been trying to get information out of her but she's been fuckin weird and bitchy and finally with help from their other detective friend guy Grasso who's been like helping them a lot even though i'm just now mentioning him lol finds out from her that the husband was cheating with some girl named lauren who worked at a hospital. Jason mentions that the governor's niece is named lauren and she has mentioned that she worked at a hospital on their weird little date and Ellie's like you're fucking crazy but sure let's follow your lead so they plan a date and Grasso and Ellie go undercover and watch from afar to see if she spikes his drink when they like fake a phone call or something and she doesn't do it so they're like damn maybe Jason was wrong but then Jason and Lauren go to leave so Grasso and Ellie follow and yada yada yada Jason gets in Ellie's car and she fucking tases him and stabs him a couple times yelling some bullshit like "where is he" and then Ellie gets out her car shoots Laurens car and the Lauren fuckin runs her over and Jason fuckin escapes and yk they're at like outside a fuckin gas station so people saw this shit happen and like start callin the cops and shit and then there's this like really cute scene where Jason carries Ellie into the gas station and like kisses her and shit and it was like really cute but WHATEVER UGHHHHHHHHH.
okay so blah blah blah blah blah Lauren is the killer and she was also Rachel and Lea and she was going after guys who looked like the man who snatched her brother away or something and Jason fit that module. i skipped a lot but jeezus that shit was taking TOOOOO LONG.
so uh my thoughts? yeah it was a book. gonna be completely honest, i was more invested in Jason and Ellie than finding who the killer was LOL. like yeah i was invested in that too but like i hate to admit it but i'm a bit of a sucker for romance aight. but there's certain types of it right like some romance is cheesy and dumb but the type that like keeps you on your toes like oooo whats gonna happen are they gonna kiss are they gonna fuck are they never gonna speak again yk when shit goes WRONG i like when shit goes wrong but i still wanted to see something between them. uhhhh what else? yeah the book was fine. i like the authors writing style. the characters are aight i guess. Jason is obviously a favorite i mean he was written to be the perfect bad boy with a sad backstory for women to be like "i can fix him!!!" to. so uh yeah. i didnt like the ending it was dumb lol. like what the hell? not the whole lauren was rachel was lea thing i mean that twist was interesting ig but like some other shit happened after that and i dont care enough to go on another spiel about it.
so what now? idk. a rating? i don't think i've ever read a book review so like i have no clue how this shit works. imma give ie a 7.65 outta 10. too much murder mystery, not enough ellie and jason kissing. no i'm only half joking. it was a fine book. but i feel like i'm gonna forget about it in a few days which is like one of the reasons why i wrote this blog. i wanted to write about it before i forgot everything i read lol.
k i guess that's it?
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh?????
goodnight.
