It's time I discuss the elephant in the room, My Vitriol. The definition of obscurity and it's probably my favorite band to date. On the one hand, I love them and on the other hand, I fucking hate them. To throw away such rambunctious momentum is such a fucking tragedy to me and a disrespect to music as a whole. Their debut albumĀ FinelinesĀ is hands down one of my go-to angsty sonder-filled albums. One of my friends had originally recommended "Ode To The Red Queen" to me. I wasn't expecting an onslaught of nasty guitar riffs and sensual vocals in the first fucking minute of the song. You can't help but withdraw yourself into this place of vulnerability and sexuality. Som drags your own vocal chords into this song so that you can remember what it's like to passionately give yourself to someone else. (This whole album exudes an ambiance of sensuality and closeness to either the band themselves or the instruments). "Head Over Heels" is by far the best song on this album. To me, it's the feeling you get when you can no longer contain your emotions. The overflowing of the boiling pot of your emotional state. The lust you carry for the other person has finally reached its breaking point. The raw fucking drums in the back combined with the blanket of noise provided by the guitar just takes you to a different fucking world. I can't explain how violently I start to bang my head as the drums get louder and louder while everything else starts to fade away. This song in particular has defined how I approach love and the ones I so desperately yearn for.
The definitive song of my early 20's (NU-GAZE/MY VITRIOL)
