Trouble at Emo Nite!!!! (Story Time)

Caspian and I went to Emo Nite last Saturday and had a good time for the most part, but there was some weird stuff that happened.

First of all, there was a guy crowdkilling literally the entire time! I don't understand what the appeal is, why would you purposely try to ruin everyone else's good time? Emo Nite does this thing where audience members can go dance and jam out onstage sometimes, and the crowdkiller was up there nearly knocking people off the stage. Caspian had to yank me backwards to keep me from falling into the crowd when we went up for Welcome to the Black Parade. Everyone ran in a circle around one of the MCs with our flashlights turned on during Fireflies by Owl City (the MC had a 360 camera), and he ran the opposite way and tried to knock people over or knock their phones out of their hands. I have a bruise on my arm from where he shoved me.

Also, the DJ was absolute dog water! It was like they pulled some random guy off the street an hour before the set and put him in front of the DJ booth. He cut the songs at random points, trying to do some kind of "audience sings the words" kind of thing, but instead of having just the vocal track cut out, he had the entire song mute. And it was always during super random spots during the songs, and wayyyyy too often. Not to mention the abuse of the air horn sound effect after EVERY. SINGLE. SONG. With the occasional spongebob dolphin track sprinkled in. We were all sick of it by the third time he had done it.

For the most part though, we had a lot of fun while we were there. We missed the first two or three songs trying to find a parking spot, but we stayed till like 2am when they did last call and last song. (Last song was Iris and it was a really cute moment.)

Unfortunately, our tales of woe don't end there. When we went back to the car after the venue kicked everyone out, it wouldn't unlock. Like, at all. And my lights were flashing, which they hadn't been when we had left it however many hours before. Turns out, my car battery died at the literal worst possible time. Luckily my older sister was able to pick us up, but we had to hang out in the only bar still open while they did their last call (shoutout to the bartender that took pity on us and let us sit there for awhile!). The city is super scary at night, especially downtown where we were. There was a guy sitting on the sidewalk that was staring at us and my skin has never crawled so much in my LIFE. My mom and my other sister drove us to get the car the next day and a Ska Punk guy helped us jump it so we could drive it home. I'll add some pictures in a separate blog post later since this one is really long already.

Thanks for reading!
