Topic: Christianity. Can Jesus Exist In the Shadows?
>>"If you are entering the conversation with the immediate thought of conversion, then you are looking at another as if they were a number and not an individual.
I remain a Christian, not because of the propaganda machine of the Evangelical and Catholic communities, but because I find the account of Jesus Christ a transformative experience, and not the sort obtained from inhaling substances or engaging in an adult activity.
I find a spiritual entity of God donning the form of a human to walk the Earth physically without the restraint of his Holy form, and freely interacting with humanity a beautiful thing. I find His Parables, not afraid to touch the harsher subjects, and indeed do I drink His blood...every Communion Sunday.
The view of blood, not as a thing of horror, but as something beautifully melancholy, the Cross is the sum of it, being a manner of execution that is again, strangely beautiful. And the concept of the Holy Spirit, explained in such intimate detail as One who is able to translate the feelings an individual cannot express themselves in words, something that the facade of societal communion cannot do for me.
The poet Rich Mullins puts it in better Words than I:
'There's more that rises in the morning
Than the sun
And more that shines in the night
Than just the moon
It's more than just this fire here
That keeps me warm
In a shelter that is larger
Than this room
And there's a loyalty that's deeper
Than mere sentiments
And a music higher than the songs
That I can sing.'

The Parable of Lazarus admits His knowledge that humanity is not a wonderful experience of bliss. The Cross is not a beautiful thing, regardless of attempts to paint over the blood stains with pretty ink. The Cross is sacrifice. The Cross is a confrontation of pain. The Cross is a symbol of death and triumph over death, the sting of death is taken away and turned into something, dare I say, expressing a gothic sort of beauty. The Cross is death to our selfishness of self to birth of the true self hidden underneath the paint strokes of others and our own attempts of painting as well, the blood drenched child of the Lamb. The Cross is an ugly thing. Christ's countenance is an ugly thing that no one should behold Him and yet here He is.
Can I express and understanding of everything? No. I am the blind man of John 9, for this I do know that I was blind and now I see. Thus, I am establishing my statements and do with it what you will. May the Holy Spirit aid me in speaking to you now, but here am I, a child of the Man with Bloody Footprints."
Are there crosses too heavy to carry?
And burdens too heavy to bear?
Are there heartaches and tears and anguish
And no one who sees and cares
CHORUS
Standing somewhere in the shadows
You'll find Jesus
Hes a friend who always
Cares and understands
Standing somewhere in the shadows you'll find Him
And you'll know Him by the nail prints in His hands
Are there shadows of deep disappointment?
And trust that has proven untrue?
As the darkness of night settles round you
As your hope and your faith waver through?
CHORUS
Standing somewhere in the shadows
You'll find Jesus
Hes a friend who always
Cares and understands
Standing somewhere in the shadows you'll find Him
And you'll know Him by the nail prints in His hands
