My love for the internet and old tech

Yo, fellow bats.

Using SpaceHey more and more is making me so happy to somehow connect with the past. I always loved everything what concerns to the internet. I was like 6 or 7 when this obsession started, in the Windows XP era where everything was so CRISPY and COLORFUL and some chatrooms were still a thing: I remember specifically a 3D chatroom whose name I discovered only 2 years ago or so and I was so devastated when I discovered it DISAPPEARED and only few people still remember it. No trace of the developers or websites, only few screenshots found on Wayback Machine.

There are some things and people that helped me to totally soak in this special intrest I have in these years:

  • Serial Experiments Lain. I can't expLAIN how this anime had an impact on me: I even got a tattoo of it! I find it extremely abstract and nostalgic, and the fact it is a bit of underground is so cool to me. I'm also impressed of how many theories were made of it.
  • Internet Archaeology. With the help of Wayback Machine and some creators from YouTube I discovered lots of websites and facts I didn't know: did you know youtube was a dating site when it first came out? Ok maybe it isn't the most obscure fact out there, but seeing the first interface was shocking for me. I also discovered that some famous websites were a totally different website before buying the domain.
  •  Of course SpaceHey. Even if I didn't fully live the gold years of MySpace and blogging, I still remember some cool websites with blinkies and sharp designs when I surfed the internet in the late 2000s. This website is helping me to live fully that era again :)
  • Tiffy from raw time. Raw time was a public-access call-in show that aired in Austin, Texas, dating back to the 90s I discovered a month ago on YouTube. One of it's hosts in 1999 was a goth girl named Tiffy or TinaRina which was very sarcastic on phone calls. I love her confidence. I followed her blog and was a bit disappointed seeing her last update was in 2004 (when I was born lol). I will link you some stuff to know her better.
  • EMILY IS AWAY. I fckin love that game. It's a chatting simulator set in 2000s (there are three of them which are set in early, mid and late 2000s) that leads you to different endings.
  • Worlds.com. I discovered this 90s 3D chat yesterday from a video. I was shocked when I found out the website is still up and wasn't recently updated and that YOU CAN STILL DOWNLOAD AND USE IT. The graphics are still intact and you can still use multiplayer. It's a bit creepy, tho.

I'm sure there are plenty of other things I can't remember right now, but I sure know my love for internet and old tech will never die.

Tiffy's blog: http://www.vinyldemon.com/aboutme.html (paste it in Wayback Machine's browser, sadly it isn't working anymore and the last screenshot dates back to 2005)

Worlds.com 3D chat: http://www-static.us.worlds.net/cgi-bin/download.cgi?action=full&bundle=WorldsCurrentVer (ONLY FOR EXPLORING PURPOSES. I DON'T RECOMMEND INSTALLING IT. I'M NOT SURE IT'S SAFE SINCE IT'S AN OLD PROGRAM. I do NOT take responsibility for what might happen to your computer.)

ahhh I miss windows xp and the stupid dog search. also internet used to be in general more fun, now it's more bland and uniform, I hope we can bring it back to what it used to be.
probably not on a wide basis but maybe at least in some communities

old tech and old internet "typical" interface have such a retrofuturistic taste to them now. Thanks to this they feel much more futuristic than nowadays' internet o.o
