how to get into local band scene?

i wanna be able to find local bands in my area, whether it be emo, pop, punk, etc. but i have no idea where to start.

i know a lot of them are hosted on instagram and i can check local cafes/coffeeshops for their open mic and live music nights, but other than that, i'm clueless. can anyone give me tips on where to start to get into the local music scene?

hi! i got some answers from the time that this entry was posted. what helped me find local bands were going to concerts in my area, and seeing the opening act bands. also, check out local fairs like pride fests or cons in your area. i went to an anime con and found a punk band that played for the night from my town! hope this helps :0
