This is gonna be a ramble but I’ve been thinking about it a lot over the past 3 months. I’ve just recently left Cambodia and Vietnam, and I cannot believe that the American/Vietnam war was never discussed in school at all. I have family who served in the war, and before I went to Vietnam, it was never discussed at all. Not within the family, not at school, not at all. Similar to Aboriginal histo... » Continue Reading
Okay I’ve had a rough couple of weeks so here’s my unprompted opinion on different animals I’ve seen: S tier: Dusky Leaf Monkeys - super cute, peaceful, love to play with each other Cats - cats are my favourite animals, and they are all so friendly in Asia Bomb sniffing rats - enough said A tier: Frogs - had one jump in my shower but he was chill Geckos - Hell yeah Cows - giant dogs Lambs - s » Continue Reading
Just wrapped up a 4 day tour w Road Kings on Ha Giang Loop and holy fuck it was amazing If you ever go to Vietnam (which you absolutely should) this is a must. The views are fucking unreal; these billowy and rolling mountains, non stop steep cliffs, lush green hills, dotted with tiny rural villages where the kids will chase you down the street just to say hi. Cows are being led on the main road ne... » Continue Reading
So I recently left China after staying there for about 3 weeks and goddamn, what an experience. Spent most of my time hiking, and all of it was spent in the Yunnan province, and it was pretty lit for the most part. Given how huge China is as a country it’s quite difficult to make generalisations about it, especially with only visiting a province as unique and diverse as Yunnan, but I wanted to so... » Continue Reading
If anyone reading this ever goes to Taiwan, you should definitely check out Taipei’s cooler sister Kaohsiung. It’s artsy, and it doesn’t feel like it’s a big city despite being the second biggest on the island. You don’t need too long here, but I found it super cool :) DAY 1 Arrival day was pretty standard; arrived into Kaohsiung at about 8PM, got the MRT to my hostel and checked in. Backpacker 4... » Continue Reading
Kenting is such a beautiful place, it’s a damn shame I picked the worst possible time to visit. The seaside town has some absolutely beautiful beaches, a great national park, and some super cool wildlife. That being said, the only natural phenomenon I managed to experience was Typhoon Fung-Wong… I’d love to revisit here when it’s a bit drier and when everything is actually open, but it was still ... » Continue Reading
If mid was a city, it would be Taitung. I spent wayyyyyyy too long here and there really wasn’t anything to do. Especially coming from Dulan which was super social and a really nice relaxed vibe, I found it quite lacking in the entertainment side of things but at least I had proper rest after dealing with this chest infection. I think this will be a quick one. DAY 1 I arrived in Taitung after hitc... » Continue Reading
If you are looking for hippie central, just take a flight to Taiwan, take a train and bus for about 3 hours, and you will be in Dulan. This place is surf heaven. Perfect waves, and a super cool vibe; it’s so worth the stop for at least the night! DAY 1 I arrived in the evening to Taitung after the most beautiful train ride I have ever been on. The next bus wasn’t until an hour later, and unfortun... » Continue Reading
Honestly, I think Hualien is a super underrated city :) Most people tend to go to Taroko Gorge through Hualien as it’s the easiest way to get here, but my unfortunate timing and poor planning meant I didn’t see it. Despite this, it was super fun! DAY 1 The train ride on the way over was very pretty. In a way, I was almost glad I took the slower train by accident. It follows the coast line and h... » Continue Reading
Taiwan was sort of kinda on the list of countries I wanted to visit on this trip but I was not expecting to travel it as thoroughly as I have. I knew 2 things before booking the flight from Singapore to Taiwan: 1. Great food 2. Great nature The flight from Singapore was also super reasonable coming in at about $190 with baggage included which was super reasonable. I booked it about a week out fro... » Continue Reading
Singapore… wowza!!! It completely blew my mind of what a city can be!!!! I sort of knew what to expect from Singapore as it used to be a top destination when I was working as a travel agent, but still. Hectic. Idk. I loved it so much. This one’s a long one so strap in y’all. DAY 1 After arriving by bus from Malacca, I walked about 20 minutes to my stay at Betelbox. If you’re backpacking SEA, it’s ... » Continue Reading
Malacca is a super cool town, super similar to Georgetown. I only had a small amount of time here but definitely worth the visit if you are in the area :) DAY 1 In all honesty, my initial thoughts about Malacca weren’t fantastic; the outskirts had a lot of super run down buildings, and can be a bit dirty. That being said this is not the overall impression, and was only a small part of my experien... » Continue Reading
