Retiring the jumbo jets was a mistake

I do understand some of the reasons why the 747s and A380s were retired, like how they guzzled fuel, but they are just super iconic and loved by so many people, and the pandemic didn't last all that long, so the airline's that retired the 747s and A380s due to the pandemic could have just brought them back when things went back to normal.
