where to start with cameras

I want to buy my first camera, ideally a digital camera, but I don't know where to look. I'm looking for something reasonably priced, something fairly portable, and something a bit aged. It's a bit of a trend to have a sort of " retro look" with some digital cameras, and I wanna capture that perfectly (not because of the trend lol).
