How did everyone find the styles that you wear?(including subcultures)

personally, i found a lot of my styles and subcultures as coping mechanisms. But i'd love to hear everyone else's stories on how they got into a style or subculture!

i really cannot remember how i got into punk aside from a couple of destroy boys songs but i quickly became enamoured (dead kennedys and soft play have been my rock...)

i think getting into coldwave and the wider goth scene was just the natural expansion of that. two relatively different genres but a lot of overlap in the types of people ive met (i.e. largely very friendly people)

idk what my style is called, but i wear stuff like mini dresses over pants, plaid short-sleeved polo over a skirt/shorts (like those worn in 90s asian indie movies XD i wish i could add a pic). i dress like that mostly because it suits the climate here in the philippines, it's very light to wear, and i can wear it at home, at school, or when i go out. also i wanted something that would be considered pretty and modest by most generations today but would still be trendy.

Was insanely into hyperpop and 100 gecs in 2020-2021 (still a fan tbh). They made a remix of One Step Closer with Linkin Park. I listened to it religiously. Then I got into nu metal and became a mallgoth.

(I wish there was an edit button on here) to add now I’m also trying to get into the actual goth subculture because I listened to some goth music and I liked it as well as the style

i have friends irl that are alt or into harajuku and i was inspired by them to dress how i wanted. sources i looked at online are tumblr or pinterest boards, or my favorite celebrities/characters. a way i got started with getting my own fashion was learning how to sew/embroider, looking at thrift shops, and exchanging clothes with friends. as of now, i have a pretty emo wardrobe and a lotta kandi bracelets that i made w my squad. but dont focus on labels, go and explore what makes u happy!

I have an unusual fascination with polos and mid to late 2000s hip hop culture. I also act but I don't think that has a subculture

I've always liked alternativ fashion as a child and when the E-girl/E-boy thing became popular I finally started to dress more alt. Since I liked creepypastas as a kid, I already knew the band get scared. I kinda started to look for similar stuff in 2021 and now I'm emo :D

Ermmm I really used to wear more like darker plain clothes (I still do sometimes) but I realized I was really only wearing it to fit in someone's ideals so I decided one day to just express myself how I actually want to and I enjoyed it and I continue :D I still once in a while go to wearing Gothic clothes- it's really fun to switch up styles :3

Honestly at first I thought I was more into darker themes and I was pretty dedicated to them too. BUT then I cam across this acc that was portraying Lolita Fashion and I fell into the rabbit hole of everything Lolita and Kawaii learning all the subcultures and how to coord. I won't lie I'm really into Yamikawaii too but I really really love sweet lolita it just makes me feel like a special princess lol :3!!

It was Thursday, January 2nd, 2020, shortly before midnight. I was 13 years old at the time. I was watching a YouTube lyric video to "Alone" by Avril Lavigne when I decided to check out the person's YouTube channel. I saw that there was a video titled "I'm Not A Vampire - Falling In Reverse Lyrics", decided to check it out, and the rest is history, rawr XD.

I got really into the scene subculture because of Amber Katelyn Beale. I saw her video "Ambrehhh's Outfits" one day and noticed that I felt very drawn to the music in the background the outfits she wore in the video. The rest is history.

I had stumbled upon Angelic Pretty on accident looking at pretty headbows- sweet lolita led me to fairy kei, and I fell in love with it! I technically don't wear fairy kei, but a watered down pastel fashion style instead. I would love to be able to have actual fairy kei outfits someday, and a sweet lolita wardrobe, but I still love and appreciate my pastel closet even if it's not exactly my dream style ♡. (I get lots of looks whenever I go out anyways, so I think it's best to go a little simpler while I build up my confidence.)

I got into scene simply because I got into making kandi tbh

I got into gothic lolita and morute fashion because I saw a bunch of videos on it and was like “oh that reminds me of monster high” and then that led into me discovering vkei because it has some similarities to gothic lolita and I would get recommended vkei playlists !

I also got into gyaru and fairy kei through videos, mostly random tik tok compilations

as a kid my mom had always played alternative music around me (including the cure). i kinda grew up to like more songs from those artists, and ofc curiously led me to the bands i like now. my style is mostly goth and the reason why is kinda rocky? i used to be really into the alt side of tiktok during like 2020, then it went on to more specific styles (mostly scene, especially w a bunch of bracelets). i always knew about punks and goths but i only started learning about the culture like a year or two ago. ever since then i've just been obsessed w all of that stuff ig! :)

okay soooo
I've started being Scene cause i 2022 I've got into scenecore
In 2022, Scenecore was my biggest fixations, I really listened to the hyperpop artists like Rebzyyx and Hoshie star etc, but later that year I started listening to S3RL by meeting hmim on a scene playlist, after listening to that playlist, I started wanting to be alternative, earlier this year I've learned the differences of Scenecore and scene, choosing the clothes that fit Scene/emo till I get my current style
I'm a LIIIITTLE bit punk but mainly Scene/emo
