Eridan Ampora Ramble [HOMESTUCK]

Where do I even BEGIN with him? First of all if you have never read homestuck GO DO THAT => NOW

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

At first glance Eridan seems like a prick. Which to some degree he is, yet that is normal for highblooded trolls. For example he believes those below the hemospectrum are beneath him, which is common. Vriska and Equius both display this, yet eridan is a special case as he is a seadweller. He HATES landdwellers and wants them dead. the reason? He's a seadweller, he lives in the ocean. we are shown the sand being littered with filth like faygo (thanks to gamzee). After constantly cleaning both land and sea he is tired of it, not to mention keeping up with feferi lusus. He has to go and kill lusii for her, and points out that he can lessen it or stop all together to kill the lowercast but doesnt. he cares for feferi and knows it will upset her, his morail. 

speaking of morail what kind of morail actively talks about another troll and immediately breaks up with you right at the start of a big life altering event? (i love feferi btw dw). after breaking up with him she goes to save sollux, someone eridan already didnt like due to the implications she had made. Eridan was begging, pleading for her not to go as she made fishpuns. He went into the game so worried about his partner only for her to leave.

Once in the game Eridan is hostile and actively upset that he has no one now, that the one quadrant he did have was gone and that he genuine had no friends. Sure he had karkat who would listen to him vent (but after finding out sollux died he claims his feelings never matter and he shuts them off and closed them off as he’s upset about how he felt. Since deep down Eridan cared for all his friends to some degree), and kanaya a motherfigure that he'd spared and even consider a friend. Yet both were busy with the game, and he knew that, but it didnt help him not be upset. You see Eridan never understood love or how to process emotions due to his lusus. Which is why even when fef was nice or seemed to give him the world he couldn’t respond or love her the way she wanted.
Consider this.

Eridan worried about fef leaving him, due to Vriska, causing him to act close off and not open up; which caused the end of the relationship. When it ended take his bonking as his own self hatred for his idiotic tatics/thoughts he had. He confess to fef due to like her, feeling like they were meant together, and overall her being the only troll who showed care/interest in him. Him and vriska were kismesis only due to their ancestors and it was mostly one-sided.

Eridan was upset during the whole duration of hiding from jack. It grew worse when he was trap in a room with not a single person to call a friend. Which made him feel misplace and uncomfortable; causing him to seem more hostile in those scenes. He also seem desperate for a kismesis at the time, which we know is to separate sollux and feferi from their matesprite-ship. Along with seeing Vriska again he probably felt as though he needed competition to show her what she was missing. A common thing eridan does. He dates to recover, due to the fact that he dislikes being alone. If you notice his words he gets hostile and claims he never needed anyone, this is his defense mechanism. He expresses his true colors while also lying about them. He knows he needs help or a companion to help him, but has no one. So he feeds into that knowledge which causes him to only hate himself even more which leads his ego to grow, causing people to hate him, and the cycle repeats.

On the meteor sollux and feferi are seemingly flirting and become matesprits, while Eridan wasn’t aware due to him having Kanaya alchemize him a science wand. When he comes back and finds the two of them together he gets ticked. And not only that but sollux using fishpuns (something him and fef only did) drives him further off the edge and he challenges him again hoping to win her over. As to him, feferi is all he has. Feferi is the longest relationship he has ever had, and the only troll who ever cared for him. Vriska never cared for him and while kanaya was there for him and he’d spare her life if he killed landdwellers they weren’t in a quadrant. Eridan also didn’t want to kill anyone, he is only 13. The 12 trolls are his main friends if he’ll admit it or not. He wouldn’t want for them to actually die. So he only KO’d sollux however after feferi saw and came charging at him, it was a life or death situation. And in that moment he had to kill her or else he would have died to her. let’s not forget this was his ex-morail and crush he had. Kanaya comes in to help and he has to defend himself again. He destroyed the only hope left (previously mentioning how kanaya should have told him, “the prince of hope” about the Matriorb, since its a hopeful thing to recreate life), and killed Kanaya. So after he descended and left, do you not believe he would in shambles over what he had done. He had blood on him (shown when he leaves their is Jade blood on his shoes). Eridan is left seeing the different blood colors on him now trying to process what he had just done.

in conclusion eridan suffers from bpd and lusii issues
